VHashishV 05-05-2003, 04:14 AM I am looking to see what you all think?
All coments are welcome. Need some idea on how to get the right reflection in the brass holder.
Also I think the wax needs something but dont see it yet.
Any idea?

The dripping wax is WAY MORE transparent then the above candle wax giving it that weird look. Try to drop the transparency and see what you got.

Ok I cleaned it up a little, added a quill and jar. The jar i know is a little bright, but I cant get the quill to look right. any idea's? The shadow was ratraced and it slowed my comp down a lot, so i just let it finish and ill rerender it once i figure out how to get the rest to look better. Anything else? :) I lowered the light levels alot cus it looked too bright, but now i think the falloff is too much. Dunno.

The problem with wax is that it's not really transparent.. it's translucent. It should carry light, but it wouldn't show the edges behind it as much as a transparent material does.
How to fake it depends on what application you're using.. but it's not really the easiest thing to tackle;)

ew... change your standard 3dmax texture to a good one! And scale it better....

So the wax is still an issue. I am not sure if it is because of the lighting, or the texture itself.
There is one omni that is just for the wax set to ambiant.
BTW pardon my spelling.
I used a falloff and gradient. ON the candel itself, gradient to give the base a darker blue and it get lighter twords the top.
On the melting wax, twords the outside, light blue, and in the thicker area, a darker blue
The first pic i thought was a bit to extreme with the light and the falloff. But i grabbed a candel, lit it and tried to take a look. Should have snapped a pic.
It was glowing more at the top, and got darker, but the dripping wax was thicker in area's and the thinner area was white and just opake, and the darker blue in the thicker middle.
I cant seam to find that happy mix.
Once i turned on the ratrace shadow for the quill and the light from the candel to cast a shadow from the formed wax, the texture changes slightly.
