Hey guys,

I have a question involving image planes and the grid in Maya 4.5. I can create a image plane and sometimes it won't show up. When it does show up, I cannot get the grid to appear in front of the plane, even after moving the image plane back in the appropriate axis. I'm starting to think its an open GL issue inside of Maya or the Radeon drivers. Any thoughts? I'd really appreciate it if you could help me out on that.

\Maya saves your previous prefrences. So if you shut that stuff off at any given time, and close Maya it will stay off. \

Check to see if your grid is checked on in your SHOW tab in your Panel view as well as in your Display menu. If that does not work go to Window Settings/Prefrences - Prefrences - Display, and make sure your grid plane is set to show.

Try that, and let me know if it worked.

Onlooker,

I'm sure about those settings. And that's why I sorta deduced that it was probably a driver issue. The setting are where they should be, so what's supposed to show does show. On another system, anti-aliasing seems to mess up Maya's display on certain things as well. For instance, adding isoparms or the paint-effects cursor draws red like its no tomorrow. But that was on a nVidia Geforce 4 ti4600. The current issue is on a Radeon 9700 and I've no clue how to turn off anti-aliasing. There doesn't seems to be an option even for me to try. Again, thanks for looking into this, but I'm still stuck with a machine that won't play nice with Maya. Thank goodness its not my machine, but its all I have for the moment.

I'm sorry to hear your still having trouble. That's a bum deal. I was thinking about getting a 9700 myself, but now I know better. If nothing else you helped me out.:)

it has nothing to do with your 9700
card (I have an 8500)

This 1st image is when you dont see the grid - notice the redlined parameter:

and again, watch the value I Input in the redlined parameter:

ATI dirvers alreadu have enough bugs in them for us Maya users so we can surely live without any additional ones:beer:

I am going to trade my ATI card the moment I can afford an nVida Quadro or (cough) a GeForce 4

BTW the images are from tests I ran with the USE BACKGROUND shader.

If you are not familiar with it - I made a simple tutorial that is to be posted in www.3d-palace.com

I am having the same problem with my Radeon 9700 pro. That little tip did't for me on the image plan nirsul. The image plane appears behind the grid in the pers view but it always infront in the front, top, side views. Also when I creat an obect, say a poly cube, it appears infront of the image plane in the pers view; but it in any other view it is behind the image plane. I move teh cude up and it appear. Very strange. I also have a problem when I try to insert an isoparm. When I move the isoparm ther is a redline that is continuosly re-drawn? I really don't want to have to get a different card, I just got this one :annoyed:

regarding the other non-perspective view - I think you should check to see if there is also a depth parameter in those views.

regarding the red line appearing wthout redrawing - It happened to me , too , when I played with the OpenGL properties in the advanced settings for the card - use defaults and see if it helps.

ATI seem to be thinking only partially when it comes to categorizing its consumers - meaning - they figure - this guy bought Maya - he must have plenty more money in his bank acoount to buy a Fire GL Z1 (or whatever card) WRONG !- I took a 3 years loan and bought myself a Radeon 8500 (:shame: )just before I got Maya. poor me...
