View Full Version : Modeling : Extrude along spline modifier?
jeff_C 05-04-2003, 10:54 PM Hi, I'm kinda new to Max and haven't found this in the manual yet... Does a modifier exist whereby I could extrude MeshSelected polygons along a spline? I know of the extrude along spline option in the EditPoly controls, but ideally I'd like it done with a modifier, so that I could adjust only the spline later and have the extrusion update...
If not, is there another method to do this sort of thing?
Thanks!

Well, like loft...
Mainly what I was looking for was something that could easily be used in conjunction with editable poly SDS modeling. For instance, if you had modeled a lizard and slapped a spline on its butt to extrude a tail along, you could later edit the spline and the tail would change accordingly. The 'extrude along spline' function in the editable poly tools doesn't remain parametric apparently, the extrusion is frozen when made... that's why I though if there was a modifier that could do the same thing to a polygon selection on an editable poly object but remain parametric it would be nice...

having a hard time commiting to an extruded mesh?

Yeah, frankly. Committing the extrusions to a static mesh now will mean immense work if they need to change. That's the nature of the model. The supposed advantage of parametric modeling is to be able to retain and edit the input parameters right? I'd like it to be done within the stack and I can collapse it later when its finalized...
This model is going to have a lot of tendrils and protrusions on it that may need to change. Rather than transforming hundreds of vertices later if thats the case, I thought with an extrude along spline modifier that the potential for point pushing to rework the model might be reduced to just the input spline vertices.
