View Full Version : irregular subsmooth box

when i tried to make a box have smooth edges, i put in a modifer>subsurface>4 level smooth.

then i selected all the faces of the box in edit mode and creased them in.

Looks great in blender, but render is messed up.

any ideas what im doing wrong?

blender calculates edge creasing at rendertime, so you need to up the render levels value in the subsurface modifier not the levels value. The downside is that your rendertimes will increase.
On a side note, for an object as simple as a smoothed cube, in edit mode, press 'a' to select the cube, 'w' to enter the specials menu and choose bevel. Move your mouse slightly to get the width of your desired bevel.
Now add a subsurface modifier, press the 'w' for the specials menue and choose set smooth.
