I decided to join the CGtalk ranks for my first Dominance War, definitely looking forward to watching everyone's progress ;) This is my entry, he is in the Warlord class and his name is Abris. I'm still working on his gear and accessories trying to nail down the over-all look I'm aiming for. I'm on a pretty crappy internet connection right now so I'm keeping my images somewhat moderately sized, so I apologize for that and I'll try to let all of you see as much as I can upload. Crits, comments, suggestions are all welcomed! :)
Background: Abris has gone through the intergalactic war scavaging through planets and their junkyards and piles finding the neccassary tools he can use in order to survive. He was an average human that did not want to fight this war, but now he is faced with the reality that if he doesnt...he will die. While traveling though worm holes to search the planets, he found himself confronted with a monsterous beast that injected Abris with his deadly venom. Before dying, the victims would mutate into ant like creatures before being devoured by the beast. But before Abris could fully transform, he was rescued by an unknown man that used his magical powers to save Abris' life. The only drawback is that now Abris will remain in his mutated state, half man and half ant. His heart darkened because of who he now has become and has obtained magical powers that he uses only to defend himself.

Worked a bit more on the concept. Some things I'm still not 100% happy with so I'm going to keep pushing the over all design more. Also noticed that the extra limbs on the back look a bit fragile and weak, so I'm going to address that by the next update. Let me know what you guys think :)

This is really nice. I like the repetitions of tree rings around his body. Since you asked for some feedback, I've got some. The back of the head seems a bit wierd and the legs that you've sketched seem to overwhelm the rest of his body. All that aside, please post more.

Hey Stacy, thanks for the crits :) I'm honestly not that great at drawing (especially compared to the insanely great stuff you see here on cgtalk) but I'll be sure to watch some of those volumes in the legs when I model the armor. Updates coming soon!

Quick update for the night
madshooter- thanks man...I'm messing around with the idea of either a huge Final Fantasy type of sword and also a torch (just a basic log/stick with fire on it.) Good luck to you too man! :)

Small update on the armor. I'm going to begin modeling the lower body next....keep the crits comin'! :)

Worked a bit more on the body/torso and also knocking out those accessories. At this point I'm not too far from being finished with the hi-poly. I'm still figuring out what type of weapon he will have...definitely going with the lava/fire artifact for this dude.

Minor update...different render. I'm going to start concepting his weapon(s) within the next day or so, so I would love to hear what you guys/lady's think. Feel free to shoot suggestions...

Finally got some time to knock a little more of this out....that deadline is creepin' up quick! Anyway, kept the artifact somewhat simplistic to match the rest of the armor design. Crits/suggestions on how I can improve this piece would be really appreciated :)

I just wanted to thank you for the crits and nice sculpt. Are you going to do anything else to the weapon and could you post a size comparison of it? It looks really cool but in the render it makes me want to see it next to the creature. Keep up the awesome work. I'll be looking forward to the textures.

This is looking pretty good. I like the concept and the sculpt looks pretty believable. This reminds me of the main villian in UNDERWORLD 2 and I am diggn' it!
My only complaint is that the folds in the pants seem a little generic, as do the fabric that the bandages are made of.
Other than that, it's looking pretty killer. Keep up the good work.

Hey zenchi, thanks man :) I'm going to go back and refine parts of it like the bandage wrap and grips, but that's as far as I'm probably going to take it. I need to start on the low poly and begin texturing so I didnt want to spend too much more time sculpting (even though it's the best and most funnest thing to do! haha). I'll post a shot of the artifact with the character on the next update :)
Hey Mando, sorry...didnt mean to ignore ya. I think you replied right when I was! :D But I agree with you, I'm not totally happy with the cloth folds either. If I find the time, I will go back and refine that as well. Glad you like it man!
