Hey guys... Alright, so I'm knee deep in texturing this F-16 which needs to start rendering in a week, and I've hit a couple what seem to be major issues. I'm using Maya 8.5 Unlimited and Mental Ray.

First of all, whenever I translate the jet in any way, sections of my UV color map start swimming around andwarping. It only seems to be on specific sections of the UV map though, and it occurs in the viewports even before I render. Heres an example...

Before move:

After Move:

I'm also having 2 other material and renering issues on top of that.. It appears that every time I render a frame (even before I translate it and the warping happens), right before the render completes, a series of small holes in the texture will develop:

Is this just something I'm missing in the render settings?

Finally, as you can notice, the front part of the canopy is completely black. The front and rear parts both have the same anisotropic glass material applied, but the front isn't rendering it correctly. The back part of the canopy is actually part of the jet body mesh, where the front part of the canopy is a separate peice parented to the body. I tried combining the meshes into one, but it didn't do anything.

Also, I tried making a texture reference object of everything to just keep in place while the plane was moved, but it appeared to do nothing.

I'm still a huge noob to Maya and CG... Can anyone help?? :-(

I just messed around with it, and this is what seems to happen to the UV layout when the object is translated...

Cant help you with the UV prob , but..

dont know whether this is important to you as dont know how much detail you need but most modern USAF aircraft tend to only have a roundel (the star) on the left wing leaving the right wing with none, also due to using symetry you have a cannon on both sides, and the back stars are a bit low as they should be on the sides of the engine.

Anyway hope you sort out you UV problem as well, sure somebody will know :)

Kow:

Thanks.. Worked! I'll proceed to kick myself in the head now for letting that get over my head :-p

Blank:

Thanks for the accuracy crits. I have to go back to the map for some other work anyway, so I'll fix those details.

Anyone have any ideas on the canopy issue?

Thanks again.

I seem to have the black canopy issue figured out... I deleted some of the inside faces, and it started to work better. However, I'm still getting some trace amounts of those holes appearing when rendering (see on the canopy). I thought it might be a problem with the normals, but they checked all out, and it flucuates based on the materials or camera position. Here's an updated render...

Here are some more specifics on the anisotropic shader...

And the Mental Ray settings...
