View Full Version : still: Mining Cave
Dalaran AW 05-04-2003, 06:56 PM Hello there,
Here is my finished rendering, the Mining cave. It is for a Fantasy Project and is part of an Animation of a dark cave, with hieroglyphics that tell a story of ancient warriors and pure evil times.
I made it with Maya and is one of my first completed things in Maya.

Dalaran

I like the overal perspective of the render, but still its very dark, making it hard to completely enjoy every aspect.

Thanx guys... for the comments... :)
I know its very dark, but its a decision I had to make... because it has to set a very sinister and mysterious mood...
In the past I used to lit everything to bright.. :hmm:
But for the people who like it... i can post the animation of the shot... its only 4 sec. Maybe then you can enjoy al the aspects... ;) But your right, it is dark...
Thanx for the comment guys (again)

I don't mind the darkness at all, those chains dying into the rock is what throws me... Maybe some sort of connection ring??? And the chain seems a bit large, looks good though.
I'm trying to figure out the perspective you are taking from inside the shaft. The lighting seems to be a generic ambient light so it doesn't seem to be so much dark and mysterious but rather plain lit and boring. It seems that the light source(s) is a flourescent light bulb rather than some type of torch or magical light source. Other than the light I don't understand the use of the chains, or their source. Are they somehow beaten into stone and used as...i have no idea what their use is.. enlighten me please so I can understand :)

I used 2 pointlights and 1 arealight. Could you maybe give suggestions for better lighting so it does give a more mysterious feeling :hmm:

The scene has a long story, but to keep it short; It is a sidepassage for the slaves who made this evil cave/tempel. The slaves were tortured, by the evil lord. The chaines used to be connected and have a lot of purposes, but the main purpose was to hang stuff on it, like tools.

I'd model in some sort of light source, be it a torch on the wall or lanterns, something that suggests where your lightsource is coming from. if the chains were used to hang equipment on they would probably be running horizontally instead of vertically. That way they could be linked to hooks on the wooden supports or something similar.

That sounds like a good idee :) thanks cyn.
But the chains now are broken... if you look on the floor you see smal chains lying on the floor. But maybe if it looks strange to people I am going to alter it. :)
Thanx,
