View Full Version : HMC 13:Louvre: Archictecture: The Louvre
robo3687 03-01-2008, 08:14 AM It's been a while since I took part in a Hardocre Challenge, and when I saw the topic and the architecture sub category my eyes lit up. At the same time as they lit up my stomache sank, as it knew what my brain was contemplating. As I type this post I am repeating 'what am I doing? what am I doing?' again and again.
The architecture sub category suggested a section of the Louvre to model, however that obviously didn't seem 'hardcore' enough to my stupid brain. It took one look at a plan view of the Louvre and a panoramic shot and thought 'now THAT's hardcore' and strangley also thought 'how hard can that be?'
So it is with great trepidation and fear that I declare that I will attempt to recreate the entire outer structure of the Louvre...in a month...to push for my second Hardcore title.

i guess i didn't realise it properly before....the scale of this thing is huge.....
I modelled the Pyramid and then put in my plan view of the Louvre to get an overall size....
this thing is 560 meters long....oi...
some images for scale (the tiny blip on the left of the first pic is a 6 foot tall human)

Yep, that's quite a monster you've undertaken. The devils gonna be in the details.
Good luck.

yeh i think the basic buildings will be okay as theres alot of repetition in them....but yeh...the details are going to kill me....
i think i'll just be doing the inner walls (as seen from the courtyard) for now, as I can't really find any pictures of the outside walls anywhere

I certainly want to see the completed model. If you don't finish at time, don't stop your project! We all want to see it finished.
GOOD LUCK!

well unfortunately it looks like this has slipped out of the "complete in a month for challenge" pile and gone into the "to-do" pile. I've been bombarded with contract work just recently and haven't even had time (between work and other personal projects) to do much work on this at all...
its a shame...i was really excited about this one too....
