View Full Version : School assignment : Stitch
Solesurvivor 05-04-2003, 03:47 PM Well , here's my contribution to the school jobs....
It's not at the same level as the Ringling guys, cuz we only have 2 hours of 3d a week, and it's my first animation as well, so be kind :)

I having a hard time downloading it. you might also want to post a fe teaser thumbnails to elicit interest in downloading.
Also I have broadband so there should be no reason why its not downloading quickly on this end. Perhapse CGtalk is taxing your server.
Also you can expect somwhere around 10-15 percent of views to be responses,

24MB!?
...rules out those with a dial-up connection!:annoyed:

so, here's an update:

big size (24mb) movie

small size(12mb) movie

my server should turn up speeds that go to about 600k/s, so I don't think that's the issue

Re: SoleSurvivor.
Nope. It still runs a 4.45k/s per second...even 12mb takes an hour or two!
Looking at your pics, I think you've done a great job...Stitch can do with his teeth, though!

that's really strange about the server. My isp should be faster than that :annoyed:
And as for the teeth, i think the morph on the mouth isn't that good, but hey, i had to render, learn track view, learn morphs, make morphs and animate in one week. And I only had 2 computers and 1 body to work with :)
This took about 240 hours to render, 2min movie
Shame my isp isn't cooperating, *grmble

Re: SoleSurvivor.
I might buy Lilo & Stitch at the week-end...I sooo wanted to see it at the Cinema!
BTW - What 3D app did you use? I reckon its 3DS MAX!

Stitch is just an awesome character :applause:
And yep, it's max we had to use....

Gee...I know I'm a CG pro now. I can tell which packages are used when looking at other peoples renders!!! :bounce:

Re: SoleSurvivor.
Skylight? Tell me about it...

one click GI light setup in max, very useful when you're not able to make a good light setup ;)
But you pay the price in rendertime :hmm:

Re: SoleSurvivor.
I see. I'll remember that whenever I use MAX.

Re: SoleSurvivor.
I assume you're asking me...
So far I've had to get by on TrueSpace3.2( don't laugh! ) but I've been working flat-out on over-time in a desperate bid to buy a new PC and a wonderful copy of MAYA 5...
...another 4 months of penny-pinching should do the trick!:)

why don' t you start with the ple version of maya 4.5
Should be good enough to get you on track...
On truespace, it's good in teaching you the fundamentals and basics of 3d , right now, i'm using a program(Max) , of which 60% of its functions I don't understand.
And if you're going with maya, you shoud use Wings3d also, very good modelling program

Hey ,
If you want to show your next movie to the masses, size down the resolution. Unless you want to show off incredibly detailed scenes, a 2 minute DivX movie shouldn't be 24 MB. Try going for something smaller than 512x384 (you'd be amazed what 320x240 can still do with DivX) and put the bitrate at something like 800. The video will still look fine, but at 4-8MB a lot more people will go for the download (and your server administrator will not hate you as much ;))
Keep up the work, SoleSurvivor. Cheers // Aehrick.

hhaha, awesome model. :)
seems very "accurate".
would love to see it cel-shaded :)

Re: SoleSurvivor.
That was my plan. I've only just saved up enough cash for the PC to even run the PLE. Now all I have to do is save for the full commercial product!

by popular request ;) , here an even smaller size of movie than the other two:
small(5mb)
stitchlow (http://users.pandora.be/dig_ren/final_very_small.avi)
medium(12mb)
stitch medium (http://users.pandora.be/dig_ren/final_small.avi)
big(24mb)
stitch high (http://users.pandora.be/dig_ren/final.avi)
Boone:
I run maya 4.5ple on a 1ghz portable with a very shitty savagemx vid card... it takes a while to get used to it, but you can work on it :)
RobinOberg:
hmm, don't know if my modelling is accurate enough to use cell shading, cuz i've seen that practically every fault you make will be magnified by the ink 'n paint material
