View Full Version : The Brobecks (finishing touches)

I've been going at this drawing for a couple of days and I think it's pretty much finished but I wanted some advice from the almight cg before calling it quits.
This, my friends, is Dallon Weekes from The Brobecks, a group local to SLC, Utah, they're indie/alternative with a klezmer kind of sound...yes klezmer. I love it! One of my favorite bands, local or not. I was going to do the whole band, but after hours of searching and finding pictures I found out that the pictures I had were of previous members, and this guy is the only one that has consistently been apart of it, he's the singer/songwriter/bassist.
A couple of notes, I completely spaced the strings for the bass but they will be put in, and the head (if that's what it's called) of the guitar looks like crap, I think I'll end up cropping it so that it can't be seen.

Aside from agreeing that the head of the guitar needs more work, I'd say the perspective isn't being "sold" very well by the scale of the hands - the nearer hand looks to be the same size as the far one. They could be subtlely different. I think too, the structure of the strumming hand is looking a bit soft - the connection of wrist to hand is a tough one and right now it's lacking a little bit of overlap that would make the hand look like it's nearer than the wrist.

Nice though. Nearly there.

You paint on a photo or you draw the sketch and after you paint it ???

Thank you BMunchausen, the strumming hand does look 'soft' and fat, kind of like a babies hand or something. I'll give the wrist a little more work when i'm fixing the hand because it kind of does flow into it in the wrong place. I think if I tighten up the hand the perspective will look better too. thanks.

CarloV, I either have the picture I'm drawing off to the side or on my 2nd monitor and I sketch from there, I don't sketch over the picture, no need to apologize for your english

I finished it up real quick on saturday because last minute I ended up going to a concert with the brobecks and victim effect (another group that I did a drawing of the lead singer and the keytarist) so I wanted them printed out to get them to sign. He thought it was great and it was awesome to meet him, I'll still be finishing up the suggested things with the hands but I thought I'd post it here for what it is now.
