View Full Version : Need help on sand in an hourglass

Anyone know how to create sand with an emitter where it can fall to bottom portion of an hourglass and create volume? Is possible to decrease volume in the upper portion of the glass and increase volume in the lower portion without creating a separate peace of geometry?

it can be easily achieved using Realflow....
In maya u can achieve interparticle collision using radial field i.e)field as source
The Radial field trick does not work, I've tried it many times. Maybe you know something I don't, but AFAIK there's no way to preserve volume with a standard Maya particle system.
You can do it semi-hackishly with nCloth, but I have no experience with that.
If I was handed a job like this, I'd do it with Blend Shapes for the two masses of sand. For the stream of sand falling, I'd use a particle system and Make Collide.
