View Full Version : Maya 5.0 online help is complicated

I'm a complete beginner of Maya and found online help of 5.0 is more complicated then 4.5. I want to start from basics to advanced but I just don't know where to start. There are a tutorial but also have "Browse subjects" section contain something like: Basics, Modeling Polygons, Modeling NURBS, Modeling Subdivision Surfaces, Animation...etc.
So I don't know if I should start with tutorial or subjects first? What's their difference?

And I don't know how 5.0 help are organised. You can choose between browse "By section" or "By chapter". What it's for and what's the different?

Read through the basics stuff...
Do the tutorials next.....

Then do some online tutorials to get really in the swing of things...
Then go buy a book and get really down and dirty...

Maya Savvy I belive is going to my first Maya book...
The manual as far as reading ...no...
I think just when you have problems then use it to solve problems.
Other than that lots and lots of tutorials...

U mean the "basics" under the "Browse subjects" section? And the tutorials don't teach things in "basics"?

And which online tutorials is for new users?

Nevermind what I posted earlier....




Check out these tutorials....every beginner should do these...he takes you through a lot of what Maya does...modeling,lighting,rendering,particules,dynamics,UVs, (http://www.medialab.chalmers.se/tutorials/maya/Pages/tutorialLevel1.html)
