Hey guys!

I also posted in Maya techniques, but I ain't getting many responses yet... So I figured I'd post here too.

I have been practicing modelling a week now and have started on my first ever real model, with making use of a tutorial. You will probably recognize the alien from that tutorial...

But my problem is that I cant seem to get rid of the "Seam" that appeared after mirroring my half-head... I combined the two objects, attached the vertices and then smoothed the new object...

All I want to know is if you guys have any ideas why the crease appears? Or how I can fix it? No need to comment on the rest :)

Hey ebolt! Try converting the model to sub-d's then back to polys before you smooth it...that usually gets rid of the seam for me.. Hope that helped..

Fetus23, tried it, didn't really work no... I guess its just my crappy modelling skills, cause the seam seems quite visible if you look close enough at the wireframe... So I am now just adjusting the vertices/faces manually to be less sharp...

But thanks for the reply!! :buttrock:

Hmm...Also make sure your normals are facing the correct direction on both peices before you combine them...and it really helps to have the verts you are welding together on a level plane with eachother so once they are connected you have a straighter line. You can also delete the verts you've welded to remove seams but that can have strange results sometimes. so here's my work flow for this if it helps..

1. Make sure both peices have outwardly facing normals..

2. Select both peices

3. Polygons > combine

4. Select 2 adjacent verts and..> Edit polyon > Merge vertices (you can also do this same thing with the edges instead of verts)

5. Repeat step 4 until all the verts are connected.

6. Modify > convert > polygon to sub-d

7. Modify > convert > sub-d to polygon

Alright...I hope that can help you get rid of those damn seams...they were a problem for me for a while too :)..

Ah that will definately help in the future, thanks Fetus23!

Thing was, I foolishly (n00b here, bare with me) accidentely overwritten my savefile after I smoothed  So I couldn't really test your method properly...

BUT I now fixed it by using the 'sculpt polygons tool' :buttrock:

It still needs a load of work, but here it is, without a seam :D

Thanks again fetus23! :airguitar
