Hi everyone. I'm doing a project with a lot of 3D elements, and layers - All footages will be 3D renders from Maya and Houdini. I'm just not sure about what software to use
for the compositing ... Combustion or Nuke ( or other )
What are the good/bad things about Combustion and Nuke ?
which one would be the best for me ?

Please help :)

Can't you just use houdini's compositor ?

If you're as clueless about compositing as you sound, it won't matter if you use nuke, combustion, or just some crayons and sticky tape.
The subtle differences between apps only apply to advanced users, for basic users they're all the same.

Combustion wonderful, But I advise you to use The Foundry Nuke 5.0v1, If you want to obtain excellent work ( And very well done ) :)

Yeah right, because unlike combustion Nuke comes with a 'Make Excellent' button.

thanks ...

Tagger : no budget limit as long as I can get the job done pretty quickly. I'd like an app that's quick to learn too if possible

Mazer : I would love to use Houdini, but I don't have any experience of the compositor ... I will have a look anyway ...

oDDity : probably true, but I need at least depth of field filter in post prod and proper colour adjustment - can't do that with the crayons really :) If they are pretty similar, then which one is easier to learn ?

tahar : I'll see if I can get a demo of Nuke ... I tried Combustion quickly and I like it so far...

You think you're joking, don't you?

Nuke 4.7 certainly had a hidden node called something like "DoComposite" which could be found by going through the Others -> All Plugins menu. I'm not sure if it's still there in 5 - I don't have Nuke at home, so I'd have to check tomorrow at work...

I've just checked - the node is called MindRead, and yes, it is still there in Nuke 5.
