Idea has changed since then, armour was too techy and I wasn't sure about my character being an alien.

hey thanks, This is an update, changed to a side veiw for no particular reason. still not clear on whether I want a human or alien, as you can see with the human arm and alien head. I guess I'll have to decide soon!

well after all that work I don't like him, too boring. Started again with a silhouette I was interested in.

and then started to build on it. Going for a sort of over tall, strange African look, obviously messed a little too much in the voodoo.

Started modeling the low poly, looking pretty average at the mo. I tend to export the low poly model from Zbrush for the final product is that the customary way of doing it? Anyway I've also been playing around in zbrush, the second pic is my start attempt at a higher poly model. Still has a long way to go but it's a start. Handy Zbrush tips would be great! I'm really new to normal mapping.

I know the body doesn't follow typical anatomy but thats deliberate, for example I will be moulding the middle of his chest to seem as though he's trying to make a face. That thing above the hole is the nose, probably made by inserting wood under the flesh...Hmm maybe I'll make some of the wood stick out! I should really give a little background on this guy. He's a decendent of an ancient african (like) tribe and follows alot of the voodoo teachings. He has risen through the ranks to become a mighty warlord wielding a giant self designed Flame hammer. However, in order to enhance his fighting skills he has dabbled in some dark Voodoo, the result a creature now lives in him, slowly eating away at his insides.
The warrior has mutilated and pierced his body to make himself more fearsome.
I'm not sure about the name, Terrakai no longer fits. I'll think of something.
Oh I forgot to post an updated pic. Here's the final uncoloured concept.

I really like your illustration style, what type of brushes did you use?
Concept looks really interesting ;)

Hey again thanks for the comments, as for brushes I stick to the standard photoshop ones but I really like the "Airbrush Pen Opacity Flow".DDS I'm also having a problem looking at the model, those proportions are really wierd (I tend to fix these in Zbrush)! I'll send you a pic of the full model (not yet completed) I'm still new at this and checking your portfolio, your models are fantastic, I can tell you're the kinda person I can look too for advice. Any tips would be great! Especially when it comes to Zbrush.
(I know the ankles are horrible, I'll get around to them eventually)

Latest update on my model, around 8660 polys, saving the rest for the stomach tongue thing and some for the weapon. Gonna move onto the high poly modeling from here (or unwrapping, whatever I feel up to). Must remember to increace the size of the hands!

Started the proper high poly modeling in mudbox, I'm a first time user of this program, but I really love it (Didn't know much beyond the basics of zbrush). Would love to here some C&C. Still a bit of fine tuning to do.

Closing on the ening of Mudbox modeling. This is the pieces modeled in mudbox put together. There is a left leg but I modeled it using the right leg so, as I don't know how to mirror in mudbox the guy has only one leg. Been messing around with the extras but not too much. Started unwrapping.

Working on the unwrap, just applied some of the normal map to see how it'll turn out, pretty happy with the result. Might need a few tweaks. This copy of the model has its legs shortened (was told the arms are the wrong size to the legs), I'll be experimanting with longer arms soon.

Well, textures are proceeding smoothly, despite the fact I dislike this part of the project. It's all thanks to Crazybump, I wish I'd found out about it sooner! Anyway I was lazy so therefore I never did a colour palette, so now I'm just experimenting with different ideas. C&C welcome.

Guess this is pretty much the winning pose (Think I'm not allowed that background so the submitted version will not have the logo)

I'm usually opposed to gradient backgrounds, but I think it turned out nicely. C&C welcome
