View Full Version : DWIII - 3D - Pigeon Lord - [TBA]
Pigeon Lord 02-28-2008, 09:26 PM Hi!
This is my first contest... :D
I'm still working on concepts for this, but I've got to at least give it a try. I have trouble with names, so I'll have to come up with one later. Maybe something like Xerxes.... I like the semi-fancy pseudo-roman sound of that one.

Sorry I haven't posted any sketches yet. They are in my sketchbook waiting to be scanned.
I was wondering whether metalic things like chains would be allowed. I think they are, but I would like to be sure.

metalic things are okay, so long as they are not technology. even some simple tech like a gun may be okay, but a ray gun is not.

Here is a bit of description for my character. He's going to be an all out fighter. His armor is made from immensely hard skales of some giant reptile, and he'll use an enchanted chain with heavy metal balls on the ends as a weapon.
sketches are soon to follow

dude.... that sounds like it's got a lot of potential for 3d coolness! it kind of reminds me of a street fighter vs snk game character named chang... he had a huge ball and chain wrapped around him, and he was super round and fat... he wasn't reptilian or anything, but i just loved the way he fought with that ball! maybe have the chain wrapped around your guy a couple of times... and have the scales be super big... like big shingles...

Yeah, I was going to make the skales huge. Like 3 overlapping to make a helmet kind of thing. And I like the idea of the chain wrapped around him. My idea was to have the balls hit harder than they're thrown and to have the chain, if it wraps around an enemy, paralize the enemy like it's stuck in paused time. What kind of magic could I call that? Dark?
Anyway, I'll post sketches now. It's got the original idea as it came to me one night right before I went to bed. Sorry about the low-contrast, by the way. I'm working on adjusting my scanner so that I don't have to do a lot of cleanup.

And here are more sketches based on that:

By the way, is there a low-poly way to make a chain?

i love the plates over his face. is that ball to scale with the character? i would make that ball 3 times as large, and then do some cool details on it... maybe even some faces or some junk with glowy temporal stuff... on the ball
have the chain wrapped around the chest twice kind of like this...
i dunno, maybe even have the chain look like ammo or make a unique chain type

i think it would look cool over the armor...

btw, i'm just going to model the head and neck of the inner guy... thanks man :D

Nah, the drawing of the chain isn't really to scale with the character. I figured the ball would be about the size of his head. And I was thinking something like a big anchor kind of chain. So each link would be an oval with a cross bar thing dividing it into two loops. And the chain could be old, scratched, with bits of former enemies stuck in some places. That kind of thing.
I'm not sure what you mean by "some faces or some junk with glowy temporal stuff" but I like the idea of a kind of dark-purple flame surrounding it. And maybe if there were a "screaming" face on the ball, it'd look cool.
Thanks for the suggestions. They're really helping me come up with cool ideas.

have fun placing all those chain links... lol

Yeah, positioning the chain links should be "fun"... I guess that's part of why I didn't think of wrapping the chain around him

Dang... had some problems with mudbox (I couldn't make it bake the normal map correctly.) and I didn't get finished in time...
