Hey Vincius, good seeing you in another, different challenge! :) Great concepts so far. With the boy, you'll definitely have to show some example of his power, what he can do that makes him a threat. But cool art so far, looking forward to more!

Hi Vincius!Indeed nice warm up man!
Nice to see you in!
Love that kid idea!Seems a bit more original as the griffon lady, which is a great sketch also though!
How about some evil invoking pair of siamese twins?Could be cool...
Cheers buddy:thumbsup:

Hey Vinicius!
Nice concepts. I'm doing a little invoker girl for this challenge, and I never thought that I would find another child here. It seems DW is made for big armored guys and monsters, or hot chicks only, and is good to see different things arounds.
I'll be following your thread, maybe we can exchange some information.
Good luck, man.

Great sketches!
I respond most to the griffon woman (for obvious reasons) but it's nice to see you're pursuing less typical stuff also.
Yeah, Bloodtaster!
Love the concepts, especially the kid.

Hey dude! Great concepts so far.
I like the Invoker Kid much, although i know you're great with drawing hot chicks, and the griphon one would be really cool.
But, i guess you can make cooler, and, as someone said before, less typical things with the kid.
Keep it up!

hehehe. it's not a bad idea. But for now is just a metal replica :P
Nice concept! For some reason I really dig the strap across the chest on the far right of the 2nd drawing, I'm not sure what it is, looks like some eyeball on some strap, but either way the design sticks out alot more then the other gear to me, maybe something you can play around with for the armor theme, but either way it kicks ass!

Interesting concept. The little girl and her dog concept is a great direction; but if they killed her dog, which dog is that beside her? Please tell me its a ghost-dog...
She's got a lot of personality; the dog shoulderpad is clever, and a very nice touch to give her a weapon that "fetches" itself (boomerang), but I think I prefer the kid on the far right in your second drawing of the first post. It's a healthy step away from Battlechasers (very good catch there, dmonk)
This is really a nice concept . I 'll keep an eye on this

hi guys, thx for the feedback
dmonk: yes, I know. But I'm just starting, so hope that my design can stay away from joe mad. I glad that you liked, feel free to modeling if you wish :)
ardenrey: thanks, I will try post something soon. maybe some color sketchs.
Miqosis: yes, Its kind of undead dog...the undead puppy from hell hehhe. changes on the concept are coming
Doch: thanks, hope you like the final version.

I had the same feeling, whan I saw the boomerang and glove. I hope you can stary away fro that image, as you said.
Man, I'd say I prefer the boy version. I think that angry face and her revenge motivations don't look so good with a little girl. At least for me.

A child... great to another unique character. We really need that among all these warlords and monsters. I think you should keep that nasty look on her face, she just seems more motivated that way. Be careful though not the make the armor on her shoulder too big, or she can't move her arm that much.

Hey, Vincius, this is looking really nice. The color scheme looks particularly striking on her. THe eye and the boomerang thing is kind of sick, but it also works and certainly paints her as a tough character! The one crit I'd offer is that, when you get around to painting your final piece, perhaps watch out about making her nose too sharp and angular the way is looks in the last couple of renders you've done. A nice, chiseled nose works well on an older character like your Griffon Woman, but kids' noses are uniformly more rounded and smooth. Just a small nit pick (I'm nit-picking her nose!) but thought you'd want to hear it. Looking forward to seeing your work on the dog, too!

Pretty, prety cool design. My only crit goes for her legs, that are too short for me. If you hide her bottom part and look the size of her arms, you'll imagine that her legs should be a bit longer than they are now. With such short legs, she looks like a dwarf, what I believe that's not your intention.
I like the color scheme a lot, and she looks to have a lot of personality. Great job!

WEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLL.... first of all:
Hello Vinicius! I'm more than pleased to witness your work process again. and I'm really so happy to see you went with the little summoner Girl! She's just neat!, now, some how I think that the expression in the grayscale 'payback' sketch ç looks cooler than the color one, maybe the eyebrow on the color version is too thin and trimmed for a child, anyway it's just a thought. But if you're gonna represent her in the moment of summoning the pup, I think the frowny, more stressed version will look amazing!
I'll be following this one for sure pal.

Well, here is another little update. I'm really stuck on this "dog from hell" stuff....still trying get the right design. Some things that I already notice:
- Try avoid the lizzard or dinossaur look, the character must look like a dog (any more bright ideas? hahaha)
- keep away from "over-detailed monster", so the character can match better with the girl
- I'm not sure about the rotting thing. Looks nice, and match the theme, but sometimes seems a fragile visual to me. This puppy will fight against really big machines.
Tell me what you think, would bee nice have a little feedback right now :)
Thanks again!

I really am liking the four-legged version. I think he looks the toughest, but also more pet-like than the humanoid version. For the head it is a tough choice. I definitely like the chain collar and head-gear of B anf F though.

I think C and F versions of the head are the best.
I like the headgear idea and the four leg version

loving this idea...great concepts
I like dog head D with the bottom right dog pic....the one with armour plating up the back.
Just one minor niggle. The dog is so aggressive looking and vicious. Then you have an upset fat puppy laborador for her shoulder armour. It looks great on her as it suits the kid/cute style but it doesnt reflect the beast. Just a thought.

I'd vote four legged (the beastiest the better), rotting (just neat, and it fits the story),
with 'a' head (the protuding chin looks cool. I also ptreffer skelletal nose over the fleshy one). but anyway it's goin real well. Maybe a fragment of a big broken chain could hang from his neck. I dont know... :D

Looking good!
I think the last dog concept is looking to lizard or beast like. Getting kinda far removed from a canine. I liked the previous drawings for the dog. Perhaps no horns though, maybe large spike collar or something? Pet vs Pet or Summons vs Summons characters or battles will usually have a beast biting another beast, a dogs weakness is usually the neck, so maybe neck armor or something so other beasts/pets cant bite it or hold it there?

Amazing stuff here. Your concept is among those that got me trying the challenge too :). I agree with Maddog-CP (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=316327), i'm not too big a fan of the horns, cause they get you too far from the dog (though the color rendering is beautiful). In your sketches, for instance, you already tried horns, but since theirs shape looked like dropping hears, it worked. here it's too "goat -like", if i may say.
As to how to enrich the dog, I thought you could have elements relating either to the accident (something that went through the dog's body still there or bruised or broken parts) or to the burrying by the girl (like a broken wooden cross with the puppy's name painted on it by the girl hanging from the chain round his neck for instance). hope this can help . I can't wait to see the final piece.
BloodTaster
03-18-2008, 08:27 PM
Thank you guys for the feedback! I'm not sure about the horns too...but its part of my process, test some things for while and see if I liked or not. So, let's keeping working:)

What about keeping the horns but adding ears (like a bull's head, which has both... well, actually, any creature with horns also has ears (except your dog.)
Overall, this is looking really nice, Vincius! I always like your crisp rendering, and I kinda like that he's not just a hairy dog. Thje mouth is especially nice. I also love those spikes growing out of his back, and would love to see you take that texture further. I like Alcino's idea about making him have some tie to his demise.
One crit I have is the proportions of his hand-legs in the color render. in the upper-right sketch they look a lot larger, and I think that shape works better.
cheers!

Hey Vinicius, really nice update. I like a lot the style on the back of your dog, really cool spikes and textures. About horns, I like the idea and perhaps a more helmet look with horns fit better on the concept ( and the tips of the horns a bit down, to the dog dont need to down much the head to attack with horns :) ), only a comment :) Again, really fantastic job, I love your concept!! Hi, Vinicius! Looking good! The characters haven't changed much (I know you've been busy) but the layout is nice. One thing I just wanted to point out is that acocrding to the rules (http://www.gameartisans.org/contests/events/3/submissions/index.php), only the big winning pose shot can be in color. The other 2 pages - the model sheet and the concept sheet (which this look like) must be "black & white or single color (example light blue to dark blue etc)." Dunno why it's a rule, and your peice certainly looks cool with color and sketchwork combined... just didn't want you to get bumped for a small detail like that. :)
Keep going, and good luck! (When you're done, are you going to join the latest CGCahllange too?)

Good thing you kept the the bubbly sketch of the girl, I like it a lot and for a bit I thought it was not included in this one, oh I felt bad! Also, the way the ears seem to grow from his 'frown' and cheekbones is cool, and he's still hace some horns, so evryone wins!
The boomerand is just creepy, I like the fact you directed his sight like it's staring at something, that improves the drawing a lot.
My only crit is that the chain looks too thin, no wonder he broke free:D
it looks darn cool dude. I love her expressions and the story behind the eye is disgustingly cool ;)
Good luck!!

thanks man, I thinking about C right now...maybe the girl holding some sort of robot's head...I dunno.

I had a similar idea to yours. Guess I have to change my boy to an adult for deversity :D
But that's not for discussion here.
I like C best. Maybe with the girl not tilted thaaat much. But otherwise the most dynamic.
Andd that's important for gameart.
Keep going :buttrock:

I like C too - nice balance of girl, dog, sky, and ground. The dramatic upwards angle is fun and evocative, too - by comparison, A with its straight-ahead angle, seems very static and boring. B would work too, if you added more to the top of the page. Good luck with the painting!

i like letter C. nice angle and has an immediate impact. there is also a lot of potential here for a lot of dramatic lighting and effects.

I like the view and composition in #C! :D haha maybe to late sorry about that ! I like a lot the design, and the dog looks like a little brother from Cerberus that’s great! The girl’s hair, that red flank and also her bad ass attitude, I will love to see it finished! Excellent style and concept!

C as in Capital!
Hey Vinicius, my vote is for C ( the zoom in of A :D) I think you can try the same composition but in reverse :D , the girl and the dog jumping through the canvas to the viewer, only a wish :D Great work !! Cheers my friend
I love the boomrang and the catch arm design, it looks so cool!! Great job!

Nice sheet, Vinicius! Very solid and very thorough! The only crit I can think of - and this is really minor - is on the Medling sheet perhaps replacing the upper left image of the gauntletted arm (which we already see in the front/back views below) with a shot of her unarmored arm as seen from the left, whcih you don't have anywhere on the page.
Looking forward to seeing your final posed shot. Good luck!
Vinicius, looking great!
Excellent work on the arm design, I also love the final look of the undead puppy.
It depends how you will pose the girl in the final pic, but if it's from the front, you will not be able to see our logo :) I like it on her back thou.
But I believe it is necessary that people can see (a portion of) the logo.
Looking forward to the final!

Nice design! Like how you kept it simple but well designed! The only thing I can think of is that the beast looks a bit front heavy in the model sheet. I would suggest moving the front feet forward a tiny bit. Just a very minor thing though! :)
Can't wait for the final image!

Nice angle, and the chains look good too. Value-wise there's a bit of a lack of variation between mega-puppy and the background behind him. But the girl stands out just fine. I'd say get to work with the rendering! :)
Hey Vinicius, cool composition. My only comment is about the right leg of the girl, Think that the rigth foot need a bit turned to the front of the viewer and the right leg a bit (only a bit :D) flexed, the weight of your character is in that leg, only a comment :) Great work my friiend !! and waiting to see your final image :D Cheers!!

Wow that angle is great, the puppy looks terrific and the most important features of the costume and weapon are clear. What if the bomerang's eye 'looks up' toward the enemy?
I'm not sure how will you work this part, but I hope at least a hint of the puppy's front leg will show among the flames in the lower left part of the pic, that'd be cool.
Go Mr. taster!! :D so close of the grand finale!! I won't miss it.

great job so far. I just thought the position of the girl could be dynamised a bit and since it inspired me, i gave it a try. I realize it might be too late, but, anyways, here it is. Hope it can help. I did three more or less dynamic versions.
One last thing: even if you don't have the time to redo the whole girl, at least try to redraw the feet the way I did, for, in your present illustration, they are drawn as if it was not a low-angle shot, though it is. Thus, it gives the impression that she's falling backwards a bit, if you see what I mean.
In any case, best of luck for the contest .

Hey Blood, really awesome work, I love everything so far.
Have you thought about putting the boomerang in the other hand? As you have it posed now, my brain went on auto mode and I thought it was a bow.
Also if you put it in the other hand, it will be more threatening, as should would be winding back to throw.
Regardless, it looks great.

I wanna say thank you again, for all feedback and support, you guys are the best!
and good luck for us all!

A great final man, congratulations! I hope you can stay among the top ten with this work. Model sheets and the action pose are pretty well executed. I still think her legs should be longer, as I said on the middle on your topic, anyway, she and her puppy look great.

BLOODTASTER…are you young? Your character remands me of a video game character from Samurai Shodown called Cham Cham. I have a video game bissness and that’s why I know all the characters on it.
I will like to see some thing really new, not translate it to your style.
Did you had a happy child life? because this character dont looks like that. Think on young generations, a very good young generations, happy young generations.

thanks for the replies folks!
lallorona: I'm not young, and yes, a remember Chan Chan. It's that why I called my character with two repeated names...sort of tribute. But, my main inspiration came from a character from Mad Max 2. Sorry if you cant see some really new stuff here, maybe you can try some other threads or forums. I'm sure there is really good stuff out there.
oh...and yes... My childhood couldn't been better. I was a lucky kid :)

Bloodtaster, Your entry is excellent!
This is one of my favorite entries. The idea and character are fun, the rendering is superb and gritty yet works well with the cartoony nature. I love the winning pose shot, the character is presented in a clear way but the image is still kinetic, powerful, and full of energy. The presentation of all aspects of the entry are great. The sketches/modeling sheet are informative to the design, but also visually pleasing, overall a great package! :buttrock:
Congrats on a superb job.
