View Full Version : Blue Angels Render
maje3d 05-04-2003, 08:00 AM Hi all! This is my first time posting here and I just wanted to show off my first true model using Maya 4.5!
It's an F-18 Hornet that come to a poly count of around 1300 faces. I plan on handing this in for my Intro to Maya class this Monday.
Hope you all enjoy!

P.S. Does anyone know of any good tutorials on how to model a photo-realistic Transformer that can actually transform?
Thanks!:)

The textures look great and the composition is pretty nice. There are a few areas I would work on to 'polish' the image.
The glare off the far jet's canopy is too strong, I think that 'glow' effect is what makes it look phony.
I'd also add some haze over the far jet to suggest a bit of depth - just enough to desaturate the blue a smidge.
And lastly, a little distortion/turbulence behind their engines to show thrust would improve the impression of motion.

What is that black thing near the bottom right corner?
also you should add more realism to the Jet nozzles they are variable and composed of many sheets that come together not just acyilinder, also the nozzles are more mettalic , also you have to show lines where the control surfaces meet ie. the rudder connecting to the tail,
one more thing, i'd add some vortexes coming off the tips of the wings like in real life it'd add more realism and yes the distortion effect too,
all in all i'd say:
:applause:
it's great for a model w/ so less polygons this would be great for a combat sim or something
btw i'm into jets alot so ... that's why ur getting all these comments

Agree with the crits on the exhaust nozzlew but i love the diffusion and spec mapping on the texture. nice piece. I will have to go back and check my refs, but there is a little wierdness going on near the nose with yellow stripe, havnt looked at a BA jet in a while tho. Keep pressing!
