there was a directX version of a similar kind of tool floating around last year - but basically this program captures a 3d model of any OpenGL program, and outputs it to a standard file format. Besides the normal geeky stuff like printing out 3d models of WoW character, I think there is a lot of opportunity for people to take scenes from games and totaly deck them out in zbrush and render them really nice and cool stuff like that. Would be fun to play around with.

I'll just add the usual disclaimer of all assets inside games are copyrighted, and therefore the game models aquired via this method can only be used for personal and educational use. :)

but that doesn't mean you can't have some fun with them just for fun's sake!

Hardly news. Do a search and among other returns you'll get this: OGLE: The OpenGLExtractor circa 2006 (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=2&t=312891&highlight=OGLE)

yes - this is old news - and using this thing is not for the avarage user and very complicated - at least last i checked....
Pretty cool idea. If anyone uses any of these extractors (DX or OGL), which one would you guys recommend?

Well it would probably depend more on what you are trying to capture from, and if they run in DirectX or OpenGL
