Hi Michael!
Awesome work man!Just love your character.
For me the fact it isn't especially a gears of war style or other nowadays hype game characters style, I really like it.
It's even better I think as you kept your style and you brought us a great warrior to the battlefields with lots of personality!
I regret i couldn't be in here some more and hope well catch up in uplift(maybe:D)
I know its a bit late for C&C but my 2 cents would be that the shadow values of the tentacle just behind(between) his legs is almost the same as the ones you've used on the inside legs(near his cross) and so personaly I find they are harder to read.
As well as the other tentacles, maybe some of them might dissapear a bit more into the background by putting some fog or something like that.
The Characters & the rock they're standing on seems to be all in the middleground.Feels a tiny little bit like a foreground is missing to me.
YEp my late 2 cents.
Anyway, this is absolutely my favorite!

This is nothing short of badass and wickedness rolled into one. Wicked concept, badass paint job/layout and a model sheet that modelers would so love to work from. Congrats to you mr!!

I am looking different artist and I wonder why almost all of you inspire your imagination on another movie characters , don’t you have your own imagination? I can see you have technique and experience, why you don’t use it with your own creative imagination? We really need talents designers.

Hey, thanks everyone! I really apprecaite seeing everyone's comments and notyes (and even Remok's crits, although they are a couple of weeks late for me to fix!) I especially like your note, DTRAN, as it's nice to see that I went my own goofy, silly path and still ended up with something "badass." I don't get that particular adjective applied to my work very often, and so thanks for using it! :)
Now we all just have to sit around and wait for all the judging. Anyone know how long that usually takes? This is my first DW.They said they were going to get final finished entry names up within the week, it'd be interesting to see a final tally of total entries. At least I have the Uplift challenge to keep me (VERY) busy in the meantime!
Take care, all, and good luck in all the judging!

Remok?Brother of Turok?Gimme a dino!!!haha..
You forgot to say its my favorite entry also, lol.
And then let me apply the totally justified word badass also because it is!
Yep, me neither don't know how'll things work out from now.Guess we have to wait indeed.
THanks for your nice words and very usefull comments in my thread WAlrus!
Cheers friend!

Ooops, I'm sorry, Remko! Your name didn't come up in the spell-check and I was typing too fast to notice! Anyhow, good seeing a familiar face here at the start of the challenge, and lots of luck with everything! (I can't even imagine having more than one kid at this point, but I'm really excited for you!)
lallorona - I'm sorry, which specific movie did my entry remind you of? It wasn't intended to be derivative of any film, at least not consciously. I had been thinking, up 'til now, that this was in fact a product my imagination, but I'm sorry that my imagination and what you would like to see don't happen to intersect.

An excellent piece Walrus! I can imagine a kind of more mature-oriented Banjo-kazooie type game with Sesslyth & Ezekiel as the main stars. I would love to play that game :D

Well, thanks folks, glad you like it!
I can imagine a kind of more mature-oriented Banjo-kazooie type game with Sesslyth & Ezekiel as the main stars.
You got it, Silvermyst, that's exactly what I had in mind: Banjo-Kazooie or maybe Ratchet and Clank. But both characters got to do a lot more in Banjo. Clank spent much of the time just as a means of trasportation, a rocket-pack with some back-talk... But wait 'til you get to play the sky-diving level where Sesslyth uses Ezekiel as a parachute! :D
Samar - I expect to see you up on the top there, too. Glad I could help in any way ('though you really didn't it!)

But wait 'til you get to play the sky-diving level where Sesslyth uses Ezekiel as a parachute! :D
I can't wait! Does he make any crazy squeeling or squaking sounds if you pull his tentacles too hard during mid-air navigation?!? Maybe some sort of goose sqwak!?!

Hi, all! Thanks for the comments! I've finally got around to making Sesslyth and Ezekiel into desktop wallpapers, so if you want one, check out the Dominance War wallpaper page, http://www.gameartisans.org/dominancewar/wallpapers/index.php. Just in time, too - it looks like the winners are going to be announced in the next few hours (according the FredH over on the GameArtisans forums.) Good luck to everyone!

Did you use references for the skeleton drawings ?
Did you use references for anything else in this image?
Amazing work, i love it, keep rockin as i already told you in pm

Well, so much for "in a few hours." FredH had posted that the winners would be up last night. Maybe soon, then.
As for references, sure, I used a lot of them. Lots of pictures of octopi for Ezekiel, and images of moray eels helped inform Sesslyth's face. As for the skeleton, I gathered pictures of skeletons and skulls from eels, bears, a pig, and humans and studied how they worked and differed, and then designed Sesslyth's skeleton around that. His bones are mostly human, with an ursine pelvis, and eel spine, and a mish-mash head!
I also used references for other things here and there - the rocks, the skeleton key, the fish on his wrist. nothing copied directly, just some photos to give me an idea for textures, how some of them look, work, reflect light, etcetera.
Cheers!

Congrats. 14'th place isn't bad :) Personally I don't agree with some of the ranks. But I guess that's a subjective matter.
