I just have a small little question about uv mapping.

when you put stuff on do you usually have to redo your map several times before it is in the right spot or do you always get it right on every time.

and a very little dump Q but I dont know "ecactly" what artifacts are. damm I bet I sound really stupid asking these questions.

It's not a matter of redoing the map, it just sometimes needs to be edited a bit.

Artifacts are little speckles that sometimes appear in renders.

thanks for that.

now. is it easier to move the uv's in your uv editor to make the textures fit good or is it easier to change some parts in your texture itself.

I just did my very first uv mapping job. it is on the head for my very first wip as well. but it seems no matter how many uv's I move the texture still seams bumpy. on the area of strait lines. but I think itll be really hard to fix this up in the 2d app. what the heck.

That is what your UV editing tools are for. That ALWAYS happens with smoothing models/sub-ds. You have to edit your maps to eliminate it. I'm sure this is covered in your Maya manual too.

You using Maya right?. It's a bug in Maya, solved in v5. Make a search in Maya section.

Hmm. yes I am using maya. it is v 4.5

This uv mapping is much more difficult than I expected. Maybe I should invest in deep uv or deep paint from right hemishphere. they are the people who make those appz right.

anyone have these. I'd like to know if it is worth it or if I should just stick with Maya's uv editor.

Thanks all.:wavey:

Even with DeepUV, you still have to create and edit your UV maps, they just have more tools to work with.

So is it easier to work with. oh what the heck. i'll just stick with what I have. I'll just get better if maya's uv editor isnt as good anyways.

thanks all for the help.
