Just wanted to let you know that you did not make a US Solider, you made a U.S. Marine. There is a big difference and we take it very seriously. The MARPAT desert digi pattern is signature to the Marines. I should know, I'm one of them and wore that uniform in Iraq for an entire year.

Semper Fi.
You aint kidding.
Marines are HIGHLY indoctrinated, and are obligated to establish the difference from an average grunt..
Some think the brainwashing perpetrated by the FedGov for average grunts is intense, but it's extremely intense where Marines are concerned.
I mean no disrespect either, my brother is a Marine.
Did you research the gear?
I have a project that still unfinished of a US soldier(not marine) and I researched all the gear to get refs.
Got familiar with all the issue "MOLLE" gear, and aftermarket gear like Eagle industries, Blackhawk, Tactical Tailor, Multi-cam.
I became very interested in it all, to the point where I got the gear from my brother and his friend who was in the Army, and put it on an old mannequin from my parents store and it now sits in my showroom.
Gas mask and all.
I originally intended to use it to do simulated combat like paintball but more involved with a local group.
I came to my senses and realized that was a stupid plan.
But I still have the stuff in my showroom, and still find it interesting.
There's alot more to the whole military gear thing than you'd first think.
There's guys out there who collect it and stockpile it.

Hey man, you can clearly read where the artist is from. "Soldier" is a very general term used to describe servicemen/women.
obligated to establish the difference from an average grunt..
You are not obligated -- definitely not to someone from a different country.
And who exactly are you calling "average grunt"s?
Please move your selector switch from "ego" to "egoless" -- This is a CG forum for crying out loud.
Now, about the model:
The resolution is great -- Unless you're planning on doing facial animation, the face doesn't need to be that dense (nor the hands).
Have you considered giving him some gloves?
I think the textures are a bit bland.
Did you include a nametape and rank?
If he fed the mouthpiece to his camelbak through that loop on the vest, it doesn't look like it would be too easy to drink from -- you'd have to pull the mouthpiece back out of that little hole.
I think the arms of the uniform are a bit too smooth. Take a look at this picture: http://www.talkingproud.us/ImagesEagle/StrategicWinner/SoldierThrows.jpg and notice how many more sharp edges those uniforms usually have.
The boots are great.
The helmet is a little sharp on the edges.
Great work so far!

Nice model. Clean wire and texture. Nice normals too.

I don't know why you're directing this at me!?
I'm not now, nor have I ever been in the military.
I chose college, by scholarship and work not the "GI Bill", that's why I'm here on a computer art forum.
I was merely responding to the image, and to the marine who DID feel "obligated to establish the difference".
I was just trying to say that the US Gov brainwashes soldiers. Especially marines.
I wasn't back patting the guy who said he was a marine.
Maybe your reading glasses aren't strong enough anymore?
I'm calling the average grunt an "average grunt".
"America isn't at war. The marines are at war so America can be at the mall.
Truer words have never been spoken!
But actually, the marines aren't even at war, they're just being used as mercenaries by the FED as the long arm of international business interests.
Seeing as to how America isn't even a real nation, it's a business entity as it has been since its conception.
You didn't buy that crap about the "Boston Tea Party" I hope!?
Consumerism is the latest religion.

Thanks for your comments, glad you liked my work.
Main photo references which I used were the photos of US army in Iraq. So it is Marine, sorry for confusion. Concerning the head wireframe, from the beginning I planned that it will be a face animation. I did not plan to make gloves. Fixing of mouthpiece camelback I saw at some photos and I liked the idea.
Thanks again for comments and for your critics!
