View Full Version : Ocean flickering in mental ray

Hi guys, I'm doing a very soft ocean motion Maya's Ocean and his Ocean Shader... as you can see, it flickers a lot when rendered (using mr):

about the shader settings:

specularity = 0.7
eccentricity = 0.03
specular color = white

mi reflection blur = 1
reflection blur limit = 1
reflection rays = 12

about the mr setting, i used the production preset, modifying just the reflections (placed to 5) and the reflactions (placed to 0)... Any suggestions how to solve this flickering problem?

i would say try adjusting the bump blur on your ocean shader, you may even need to write a small script or use the setRange node that increases the bump blur as the ocean gets further away from the camera. I had the same problem and posted a similar thread in dynamics I think, you'll find all you need there.

in addition to what the other poster said, decrease your contrast threshold settings in the MR globals. Drop it down to about 0.03 for RGB and check the jitter checkbox. This should reduce the flicker. If it's still there you might need to increase the samples a bit.
