While collecting ref-images for a project that requires some extensive tiling I ran across a small app called Genetica.
http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/genetica.htm

I'm testing it now.
It's PC only which irks me as I hate workflows that require me to switch machines cause my PC's are getting old.
But it seems great, it can do things like combine different images to get an effect such as paint peeling off revealing a base layer texture.
It uses several effect layers to get complex textures.
And I believe all layers can be exported individually to give you bump, transparency, and diffuse(color not diffusION).

At face value, it seems like such a great little utility that I'm damn surprised it's not talked about around here much.

Downside is that the Pro version is $399 US, the standard though is $129 US.
Not sure how much of a difference there is between the 2.

I was just wondering if anyone uses it or has even heard of it?
If so, is it worth the $$$?
Or does it not do anything you can't do with standard shaders or Photoshop?

I using it.. is a good program for all the texture you need.. and it generate for you what kind of texture you want like bump.. transparency.. and you can even change the colour for the texture when you select the one you need.. simple and nice..can change it attribute for each texture..(the texture is inside the program own.. ) but sometime it make you laggy when generating one.. it come with lot package of texture..you just have to download it from the website.. for mine..is auto update...

still prefering 3dtotal texture..lol..i hardly use the program...it come handy once a while..

yup...is a good collection to have.. there have different set.. like cartoon.. environment.. each set one cd.. every texture of them has all the bump map.. high and low resolution.. check it out when you free..there a website also has a lot of free texture but it is according to quota.. like www.cgtextures.com (http://www.cgtextures.com). 3D total texture you have to buy..or..*ahem*...

I like the free textures from cgtextures, but their quota system sucks.
And I don't mean the quota amount since 15MB is always plenty for particular textures.
Provided you can actually download them.
Seems like whenever I try to download them at least 1 one of them hangs during download, and then if you have to refresh it takes more off your quota and still might not give you the whole image.
Also, there's been more than a few times that once I clicked on the texture and saw the high res quality that I didn't want to download that image.
But of course, it still took it from the quota.
