Just starting my thread and throwing up a sketch that I just did showing a happy, bumbly and wise fellow, well versed in the arcane arts. :) Obviously more to follow.

You have some old school styling going on there, nice.

Thanks! I will post up some inspiration later tonight but I think I've fleshed out some small backstory and art influences.
Name: Hillem Kjalstrow(not sure on name)
Element: Lightning or Ice (not sure as well)
Story: Hillem was born into one of the giant's 3 royal families, growing up as the youngest of 4, with 3 older brothers. Each of these royal families, lived in the farthest corners of their world, deep in recluse in remote mountain areas, due to their size and passive nature. Based on typical royalty code of ethics, he was the last to receive the crown. Although a generally just family, he grew up in the shadow of his older brothers, looking up to them for courage and guidance. Since all three were close in age, they fought for the crown, always battling for their father, Jarl's favor. Growing up without guidance he chose his own way, learning the arcane arts from a family friend and local wizard. Jarl was aware of his commitment and recognized this on his death bed by giving him the throne and access to the family magical weapon (not sure on this yet, a staff to harness the heavens' power perhaps?).
Strengths: Wise, deep in thought, not quick to judge or anger, compassionate, bound by justice and a strict code of ethics, quick on his feet (for a giant)
Weaknesses: Sometimes too deep in thought, ignorance to the common man due to his vast knowledge, easily angered by those who judge him for being a giant and assume he's stupid
Norse or Old Swedish culture, LOTR (mostly the dwarves) and Beowulf, muted dirty colors with a brighter color to offset with contrast
More sketches and influences tonight! :)

Here's a character sketch that I did to flesh out some ideas. I'm open to suggestions or comments so please send em my way! I'm also posting some images I'm going to be looking at for inspiration.

Hmmm.... I might go back to basics and trying and figure out a good silhouette when I sketch this weekend and then flesh out some of the details then.
UPDATE: As far as the weapon, I want him to either have some type of gaunlets/gloves or some sort of addon to his armor that helps him harness the surrounding cold air into ice shards to throw at his enemies. :)
Any comments or suggestions?
