This is the line concept I chose to use for the 2D side. I feel like I've been slacking on this side because I've been working on the 3D side too much.

Here's the first update on the character

This is the rough form so far, any crits before I render it out to the next level?

The Cgtalk team colors have yellow in them, so this is my first concept for the yellow in the armor, any suggestions?

It was brought to my attention that yellow was removed from the normal CGtalk colors for our team colors. I still like the yellow so I'm going to leave it in. There is a reason the yellow is in the CGtalk color scheme, it helps add pop and contrast to the other colors. Try drawing a picture with only a black, grey and red crayon, it'll be lacking something.....anyway, rant over. I like the yellow. Any suggestions. :P

I like it. Not been surfing much in the dw3 forums but from what I've seen this does have a look that could be from the future. Most stuff looks mediaval to me.

I'm glad you like it so far, but you bring a up a good point.

That's the same vibe I've been getting from most of the DWIII entries in both the 2D and the 3D competitions.

The rules and guidelines say they want it in between sci fi and fantasy, but almost all of the entries I've seen have either been straight up fantasy, or just a monster of some kind.

If the world lost electricity through an EMP other sciences would still flourish. Chemistry, biology, and the introduction of magic provides a world that is far from fantasy...or am I not understanding something.

I worked on trying to get some other colors into the highlights and shadows. The image was looking a little too monochromatic in some areas.

I'm a bit confused by the rules (or lack thereof) as well. ^^; Sure, there is no real technology, but then how do the races travel between planets and get into worm holes? It does seem like most people have focused entirely on the fantasy aspect...

Anyway, I like your character. :) Though I think her calves look a little thin. With the armor/padding on them, I would expect them to be a little beefier. Also, you might want to try adding some cool details to her helmet. Maybe something like bicyclists wear, with the vents and the point at the back?

I think they would still have technology, just not electricity, right? There could be several reasons I could think of why electricity could faulter, but technology and scientific endeavors will continue as long as humans still exist. Another thing I couldn't figure out is how based off of reality were they going for. Is this supposed to be post apocalyptic earth if magic came out of no where, or is this essentially an open statement to allow artists to use more creativity?

Well, the Dominance War III page says:

It has been 1000 years since the disappearance of machines. All electrical and mechanical systems continue to malfunction and every planet has been cut off from each other, leaving planetary wormholes as the only means of traveling between planets. Only myths remain of how life with technology once was, until recently...

So that seems to me, anyway, like all but the most basic forms of technology wouldn't work. So things with gears, moving parts, electrical circuits, etc. would always malfunction. At least that's how I interpreted it. ^^;

As for whether or not it's post-apocalyptic Earth, I have no idea. I'm kind of going with 'no', only because that's more interesting. XD

Edit: I just re-read the restrictions and saw this:

Your character cannot possess digital technology. A simple pistol is allowed, but a laser gun with circuitry is not allowed.

So I guess moving parts are okay? I don't know! DX

Newest update. Breaking up some of the shapes, adding color, Logo stuff. Drawing that logo on a curved surface was a pain, but I feel it was worth it.

Yet again my thinking makes me think about many of the designs I've seen. The whole world is deciding to send one person to go fight a war. If they were going to send only one person they would probably pool together enough money to make their ultimate soldier not look like a barbarian.

I also thought about the assassin class and why it's flawed...the soldier is the ONLY organic creature fighting an army of machines. Assasins by nature fight by blending in until it's too late for the target to defend themselves, but it'd be hard to blend in on a planet of robots.

I finally started painting the weapon. It's kinda like a staff, but with blades like a halberd/scythe. I still need to finish the details on the weapon.
