I am using Illustrator CS3 but when I try to import PSD files into it it is flattenening layers even when I tell it to preserve layers.

Any ideas?

Unless Iím missing something, I don't think you can import layered psd files into Illustrator (I use CS3 also). Do you mean exporting layered Illustrator files as layered psd files? If yes, the problem with flattening is with effects such as a checked overprint attribute, layer modes other than normal, etc.

Sorry for late reply, I didn't get the email for whatever reason!
Yeah I want to import PSD layers into illustrator. My DVD video workshop says I can! But I can't!

I tried this file>place command and selected convert layers to objects and that seems to work sometimes in that you can edit text and stuff. Does this work for you?

I guess I was missing something. It works fine.
The psd layers come in Illustrator as one layer group.

Oh right I see, how do you split the layer group up? When I tried saving it it wouldn't let me save it as a PSD file, funnY. :(

Split the layer group up by ungrouping the contents first, then create new layers and drag each placed component into a new layer.

You save the file as a psd file by exporting it as a layered psd file.
