I had a mis-named wip thread months ago on this. I wanted to put together some stills for feedback on the lighting. I'm pretty happy w/ the results, but lighting is my weak area. I used LW's sticky frnt. projection w/ a photo and shadow objects.

damn these kick ars!

My only suggestion is that you model the dead trex's wound, it is flat and no bump mapping can make the hole big enough.

other then that, sweet!

how did you make the landscape?didn't look like a photo anyway!...better!

For the first image, the only thing I would do to it is give the shadows a *small* touch of red, and add a small amount of orange-red bounce light from the ground, especially near the fallen T-rex's tail, but other than that, it looks great!

The second image: The foreground T-rex needs to have less light on his torso/shoulder area, since it's not too clear where that light is coming from. This T-rex needs more of a silhoutte lighting approach. Add a rim light (not too strong) around the top of the head, nose and lower jaw.

The third image: the foreground T-rex looks like he is being lit by a studio light. It looks from the image that the sun is coming from the right around the corner of the cliff, and the T-rex is not in direct light. So darken it, but make the side near the cliff wall darker still (notice how dark the cliff gets near the top of the image). Add a rim light around the head area to simulate the bounce from the far cliff which has the sun casting on it. The other T-rex looks great!

I hope these comments are useful! The T-rex's modeling and texture are very good!!!

Thanks for the feedback. I did model the wound. I guess it's too small to see. I'll link a hires pic so you can see better. (After I turn up the orange bounce lite)
The landscape is a bg plate w/ front projection. I model objects to cast/catch shadows and use the sticky FP so I can animate the camera slightly.
I have an old walk here - http://jackydaniel.com/anim/640x480_rex_divx6.avi
Yes, her center of gravity is too high in the avi.
I'm doing a simple animation, but nothing too dynamic. I'm gearing my work towards character creation. ie (I suck at animating)
Yes, that helps Njen. I suck w/ lighting also. Thanks, I'll give it a tweak.

The desert background is sweet.
If you modled that, that is awesome.
It looks incredibly real.
I don't think that the dinos belong there though.
You should put them in jungle or something, or maybe standing in the middle of a river.
The whole thing together is awesome though.

the rex's on the first one look like they dont have any bump maps on them and look very similar to a couple of blow up toys.

the rex in the forground on the third one is my fav. it looks realistic and it seems to have very nice textureing going on. but it totally looks like it is being studio lit. i mean you can see the specular. come on. what is this a movie. and in the first one agian. shouldnt the wound be in the shape of the others mouth. he did bite in right.

Looks great, the only thing that caught my eye as not right was the texture contrast on the third one looked alittle too high. Id just tone it down or change the lighting. Good stuff man

Here's the hi-res I promised. And I adjusted the lighting some.
I did have a forest scene planned but, my images never came, and I got tired of waiting. :)

I like the texturing job a lot. The first image is the strongest. I would still squish the head a little (as mentioned before).

Here is a movie to help with the walk cycle (not mine, mind you).

:scream:

love it

the only things that would have been the cherry on the cake would be

1. scuff marks on the ground

2. snot, blood and gunk coming out of the dead ones nose and mouth

3.dirt clagging up the wound

4. more injuries to both...the odd snapped or missing tooth....drool and blood hanging down from the winners mouth

Yeah, it's that rex again. Just wanted to share this forest environment render. I used a volumetric light w/ alpha noise on the Y axis only to make the streaks. The trees are clipmapped.

Thanks. :) I use the sticky frnt. projection so I can animate the camera slightly. I'm rendering a walk through the canyon image now.
Quite funny?

owww I love the landscape. In contrast to what another poster said I think the dinosaurs are excellent at home in the desert. If you would make it forest, it would become a jurassic parc clone, I like this better

Here's a low res. anim. of the t-rex model I'm thinking of using for my character reel. 3mb DivX- no audio.

Hee you go Hap. http://www.jackydaniel.com/images/rex.jpg
Thanks! I'm trying for a char. creator. My animation skills are'nt quite as sharp. I'm hoping the animations will help sell my characters. Besides, I'd rather model and texture if I had a choice. :p
