I don't have 3.1 yet, so things may have changed, but -
does your model have a texture and UV mapping set up?
If not, it won't generate a displacement map.

Your workflow sounds correct, i sometimes had export problems while other apps running at the same time. Close all other apps and restart Zbrush , maybe this will help you.

If this does not help, check the new free tutorial at cmivfx.com it descripes the complete pipeline between c4d and zbrush.

I'm not familiar with that plugin. Try the standard displacement map exporter (Tool>Displacement) or Zmapper instead? I've always used the Tool>Displacement method and it works fine. Never really understood the attraction of Zmapper which seems much more complicated and accomplishes basically the same thing. I guess it provides the option of 32 bits, but that doesn't seem to make much difference in practice.

Do you have a warning of any kind? Usually, an error will pop up if the mesh/UVs are not correct.
Check your UVs and see if they are not overlapping, check for bad geometry which might not be detected but could cause problems.
Try to export the mesh from Zbrush, import it in C4D (using Riptide, so you don't lose the point order), and re-export it and re-import it in ZB.

I shouldn't just "not generate" the maps, it should tell you something, at least.
Do you have additional plugins installed for ZB?

By the way, how can you tell it does not help, if you didn't look at the tutorial?

Did you check to make sure you don't have overlapping UVs? [Tools>Texture>UV Check] If you see any red in the resulting texture, you've got overlaps and map generation won't work properly.

didn't work too ...

You need to register(free!) yourself to the CMIVFX player. There you will find a free
CG Channel exclusive Tutorial. This Tutorial guides you through the process of exporting a model from Cinema to Zbrush and back

Not sure here, but don't we have to use texture sizes that have to match disk and video card cache size, or something?
Meaning by that : could you try setting your texture size to 2048 or 4096, instead of 2114?

It may not be blank. After you hit Create Disp it shoots off and buries itself in the tray at the bottom of the Alphas. Have a look in there. Also I noticed that I have a different number for Displacement Exporter. I don't know where I came across mine but it's DE-JCGK-EACADA-4D_32. Displacement Exporter displays the current alpha so make sure you have your displacement map selected ( if you can find it!) Good luck
