Just posting to say I plan on entering the contest with the character the "Pied Piper".
For those who don't know, he is already a character with questionable motives. ;)
"Hamelin is a town with a pest problem: rats. Into the village strolls the mysterious Pied Piper, who says he can get rid of the little buggers for a 1000 gold coins. The mayor of the town, with the townspeople breathing down his neck, agrees to the extravagant fee. So the Piper pulls out a rather interesting pipe, and plays a bewitching tune which causes all the rats to follow him out into a river and drown.
When he returns to the village expecting payment, the Mayor tells him he'll give him 50 gold coins, and that he was only joking about the other 950. In response, the Piper rightly explains he knows more than one song, and serves his revenge with another enchanting melody. This time however, it is the village's children who follow.
Off they go, disappearing forever into a mysterious cavern, with all the adult townspeople looking on in horror, spellbound. Except for one little boy, who is lame, who couldn't keep up. And of course he survives, and lives to tell the tale of the generations lost to the tune of the Pied Piper..."
Well, one might speculate that the Pied Piper is not an inherently evil character, and that perhaps he was taking the children on a magical journey of unearthly delights. However, one might also specualte that the Pied Piper has better things to do with his time than babysit 435 children and would do away with them toute-suite!
My entry is the Pied Piper of Hamelin (with perhaps a rat or two if time and polys permits)... reimagined with a sparkle of sophistication (ornate clothing) and cunning which speaks more of his evil nature than the beguiling smile on his face. The pipe will no doubt be some sort of charming pretty thing, silver plated and chased perhaps.
