very early concept stage of 'Syness'. Still playing with height, and what exactly he should be/do. But I was thinking perhaps changing his color, and adding some shrubbery all over him so he would be vegetation geared.
I think you still ok :P
btw Welcome to the team

a sketch for the night, still coming up with ideas.
playing with the idea of vegetation even more so now.

Nice concept Dude:) How about some leaves, shrubs and roots, will look cool. Just a suggestion.
All the best:thumbsup:
Monkey, You should make the broken chains on his arms longer and get them whipping around in an action pose when you do the model. Make it real dynamic looking that would be awesome looking.

you wrote down exactly what I was going to attempt to do for the main action shot.
I have a pretty good idea of what it will look like, just hope it turns out nicely. ;)
Been away for the weekend. Time to get the ass in gear and post some sketches!

Still trying to flesh this giant out.
I know this so far:
- Will be inspired by Medusa / Centaur
- 3 legs
- wood like skin
- will still incorporate chains
- will still incorporate glow
- his back will be like a mountain slope
- artifact will remain in his stomach
here are some sketches. It goes in order of how he has evolved so far starting with a typical type of character.
Looks good. very greenman-ish. I am like the Face alot especially the mossy soul patch! lol. I also like the root/dredlock/vine like hair. keep on rolling!
03-05-2008, 01:12 PM
haha you noticed the soul patch hey? ;)
That will definately remain in the end.
here is a speed paint using the concepts above.
03-05-2008, 01:15 PM
haha cool you gave him horse legs, i was gonna say his legs before seemed a little too week but now thats solved :-D
i really like the golden firey stuff going on inside him, you should play that up more!

unfortunately I can't draw at work other than in my sketchbook, which I am...but I can't post any images.
but, I was thinking of the story line behind Syness (jot / quick note form).
SYNESS : The Earth giant
- formed by vegetation and great magic thousands of years ago.
- Earth giants roamed the world in herds of 5-6. It is believed that their numbers reached the thousands before nearing extinction.
- Syness is the last of his kind.
- He was captured by dark magic of some sorts and held captive within/blending in as a mountain side (reasons for his chains). Maybe captured in previous DW's by an enemy.
- His artifact has been switched on (by one of our very own CGTalk warriors perhaps?)
- While in his deep slumber and captivity for thousands of years, his powers have been able to double. He has grown stronger now that he has been switched back on (nature and industrial working together?)
- Now he walks with CGTALK and its deep ranks to battle in the 3rd Dominance War.

I like it loads. I think you shoudl scale it down abit more, so that his strength is more important than his mass. Also doing textures for huge objects are dificult.
Great concept man.

my god its been a while and time is ticking. darn it.
anyways, here is a 'concept sheet' protoype for ya.
03-25-2008, 04:36 PM
trying to figure out the pose.
also a silhouette for he model sheet. I used the one on the concept sheet, just cleaned it up a bit but adding/removing branches, giving him a neck, fixed chest.
03-25-2008, 05:04 PM
found what i was looking for*
03-27-2008, 05:45 AM
plan is to flesh out the final pose and then do the concept sheet as I figure the CS won't take as long as the beauty shot. so all day at work my mind fried over what to make him do or pose like. My big issue was to make sure I showed the viewer all the detail that flows behind him (ie: the rooty back and third leg). posing him just at the side was boring to me. He needs to be doing something. I came up with a few ideas like:
1 - him standing on a cliff, birds flying around him (think hippos with the birds on their back) but since he is so huge, they'd be little M's. That idea also led to the idea of flowing water through his root feet, which still could be cool.
2 - a heard of these tree beast giants. after watching 10000 BC last night (horrible movie BTW and I'm glad I did not pay to see it...great CG though), I got the idea of a herd of these, elders, female?, younger smaller giants, in the middle of a grass land, and in the foreground having a bunch of soldiers of some sort prepare to take them on. But again, I only kept hitting that block of the side view. again, interesting idea.
3 - a battle scene, where again the foreground consits of soldiers but this time scrambling to take Syness out. It would be a huge action shot, so the FG would be blurry. Syness would be kicking or stomping soldiers away (to show scale). this is probably the one I went with, but a little differently.
Changes I made to Syness:
- trying to pose him with actual legs and a horse like 1 leg in the back : not fun. this will be my challenge, I knwo it will be. So I changed his front legs into a horse. So now, he has even more of a Centaur resemblence.
The scene I'm shooting for now:
like I said in #3, Im doing a battle scene. but I did figure out a pose. Just trying to get it right! here is the pose:
i also have a version 2 of the concept sheet.
let me know what ya think!

wip final pose update
04-01-2008, 05:41 PM
going with a dynamic pose instead of trying to figure out what to do with the background and foreground. keeping it simple!
04-02-2008, 03:58 PM
worked it more last night.
04-05-2008, 08:22 PM

04-06-2008, 12:42 AM

04-09-2008, 06:52 AM

04-09-2008, 08:23 AM
last post of the night. gotta start colors tomorrow.
04-09-2008, 10:25 AM
Hey Dimitrios, The character its evolving in deed and pretty fast! Great! you really want the war, thats the spirit...
As for your character, the value itís going well the bg looks yet a bit weak, but maybe you haven't get to that layer yet in the posting process? His position its going well is he going to match any army of robots or something alike? ... The grass looks a bit too big or small I donít know the reference for his size itís hard to tell yet? Keep up the good work; I hope to see some colors later! And hurry up! :arteest:
04-10-2008, 05:36 AM

I can't decide if i want to add the hill in the back or not.
personally, i like it without.

with no hill.
coloring begins tonight!!
04-10-2008, 06:49 AM

here is a color update
04-12-2008, 07:44 PM

04-12-2008, 08:24 PM

tweaked this a bit more.

04-12-2008, 11:59 PM
annnnd modeling sheet.
not the best but its going to have to do.
I'm about 50/50 happy with this. But again, it was mostly for a learning, fun experience.
good luck to all! some really sweet entries. can't wait to see who the winner is!
might still tweak some of these before i hit the submit button.
