Glad Pixar won this one....really a great movie. Watched it again tonight for about the 100th time!
I love how scattered is this year. Not that much fanboy-ism.
Good stuff Brad Bird won. Pixar deserves that.
Also I'm happy that Bardem got the best oscar for the supporting role, that's awesome news for spaniards like me :D

congrats to Bird and Pizar! great film.
sidenote: did anyone catch Brad Bird in the "how the votes are casted and counted" during the Oscars? damn funny what he did [covered his eyes and dropped his pencil on the ballot to choose his pics].

Congratulations to Brad and Pixar and all the people who put their hard work in it.
There was no other option than to win for Pixar this year, Ratatouille is the best.

You're cutting 'Persepolis' short. Nevertheless, good choice and congratulations to everyone involved.

Congrats to Pixar.
And lets not forget "Peter & The Wolf" for best animated short!
Saw it in Annecy. Well deserved!

Congrats to Pixar and everyone involved. i have to say this is the first year i've ever rooted for anyone other than Pixar in the Best Animated Feature category, though. Surf's Up was freakin amazing. it's a tough choice for sure cuz ratatouille is so great, but in the end i'd have voted for surf's up. just a little funnier and a little more heart in that one.
Ratatuille deserves the Oscar for sure, every single frame of the film is ART.

I guess the choice was easy when there were only 3 nominations...
Ugh, what a joke. Rat definitely wasn't my choice. :/

^^Just curious as to which animated film (nominated or not) wouldv'e been your choice. I'm more than happy with this win, as many film critics have even said that it should've been nominated for best picture.

I loved Ratatouille and I give my warmest congratulations to Brad Bird and all the hard working folks at Pixar.
However, I wish more movies like Persepolis would get made, get seen, and make money here in the U.S. I loved Persepolis, and I felt it was just as deserving of the Oscar as Ratatouille.
Brad Bird is a true story telling magician. As long as he is involved with Disney and Pixar they will never run out of magic.

No clue really... I never did have an alternative I just don't believe that Rat should have won. The movie LOOKED gorgeous but the story was just so bland, like an unsalted/unspiced meal (POW! Food reference for the win! :D )
Really though I was more sickened by the fact there were only 3 nominations, it is as if they just quickly added the other 2 because they needed to seem like someone other than Rat had a chance.
BUT! This is clearly only my opinion.

Clearly. :)
Personally, if Ratatouille had been allowed in the Best Picture category, I would have wanted it to win there too. It certainly kicked ass over Surf's Up story.
Really, 2007 wasn't a big animated feature year. You'll note the visual effects nominations only had 3 as well.

Actually I quite liked Surfs Up storyline, and I really liked the way the movie was 'filmed'. In my opinion it stood out a lot more than Rat did. A lot more original too. Beautiful looking movie too.
Ah well, it is done with! :D

Gotcha. There were only 3 nominations because there weren't enough animated films to necessitate 5 nominations. Mainly because movies like Beowulf are no longer considered animation. Personally I loved Ratatouille. It kicked me in the butt big time, I found myself relating to the critic character more that the rat, and it scared me. When he gave his review at the end it whipped me into shape.
I do think it was Brad Birds weakest film so far, however that still is about a 9.5/10 in my book. His cinematography just blows my mind everytime.

ill be unpopular and say that i was so upset by this win----I personally think it is absolutely your mission as an animation house/vfx house/etc to push yourself everytime. Persepolis pushed what we consider acceptable oscar animation. Im not sure they deserved to win...not sure about any of them. What i will say is this: if you are pixar and you hire-up some of the best artists in the world...you have a responsibility to push the limits of your work, and be more innovative that you are being. the storytelling...the framing....all another discussion. But submitting another "pixar-ish" movie, where maybe renderman is a bit better and they look maybe a bit prettier....i think that is a failure. Now, of course this is all relative. Pixar clearly IS very good at what they do, and yes, the software they put out is good. But have we really pushed ourselves since Nemo? With all those minds tucked away behind the pixar walls, where is the innovation? just a thought...
