Im working on a gun model for an indie game, and Im using 3ds Max 9 to project/bake normalmaps from the highpoly to the lowpoly mesh. Baking normalmaps work, but when I try to make a lightmap I get strange distortions like this

Im using mental ray with final gather, and it looks just like it does when you're using very very low settings in final gather. Except, Im using mid-high settings. I have never encountered this problem before, and I was wondering if anyone knows what wrong?
