Hello. Im new to max and 3d modelling (have had max for a couple weeks). I started the joan of arc tutorial and did the head first but i get these god awful seams down the center. What is a good way to get rid of these seams? I've been messing with weight and moving verts and that but cant seem to get rid of em :annoyed: I included a pic to show what i mean.

Xilo, your seam is probably due to the border polygons not being planar. The polygons that border on each side of the seam are not ~parrallel/coplanar. The change in contour will cause a seam crease like yours. I'm guessing you modeled one half of the face, but never had a mirrored side next to it as you were modeling. If you have a mirrored side then it helps prevent those sharp seams. It gives you a better idea of how the two halves will look joined. You can create a mirrored half by selecting the original half of the face then hitting the "mirror" button and selecting "instance"(it might be "reference") as an option. Choose the correct plane of symmetry and you should get a mirrored half that updates as you model the original half.

Also,

-Make sure to check your vertices to make sure the border vertices are actually merged.

-Place a smooth modifier on the mesh and see if that doesn't fix it.

Ya I had done all that when i was making it. Guess ill try to make all polys on the edge planar. One thing though, is it possible to see the whole mesh mirrored and smooth while working with verts and that under the edit mesh modifier? Or do you have to do the instance thing to see the end result?

Instead of mirroring it as an instance, mirror it as a reference. :D

if he is useing max 5 then he can use symmetry.
