Dear Julia,
I normally prefer to use a reflection map that is blurred before hand.
Apply this on a non-renderable sphere with surface shader.
The gain will allow you to adjust the level of specularity.
For the material that you want to apply on the desired surface you want the effect,
apply a phong/ blinn material with color black, diffuse black.
play with the reflectivity a bit after changing the reflected color to white.
Adjust the eccentricity and falloff to control the softness of the reflection.
:)
