Hi,
Is it better to have 1xquad-core XEON X5482 or 2x quad-core XEONS E5440 workstation for XSI and AE?
I need 32-bit WIN XP. So I can use only 3.3GB mem. I need 32-bit system, because of Trapcode plugins in AE. It doesn't support 64-system, I tried it. I think about using dual boot system - WinXP 32/WinXP 64.
And graphic card? Quadro FX 1700 or 3700 or 4600?

Configurations:
1x quad-core XEON X5482 /3.20GHz, 1600FSB, 2x6MB Cache, Quad Core/
4GB DDR2 800 Quad Channel FBD Memory
Quadro FX 1700 /or 3700, 4600?/
150GB 15k SAS drive
2x 500GB 7.2k HD

2x quad-core XEONS E5440 /2.83GHz, 1333FSB, 2x6MB,Quad Core/
4GB DDR2 667 Quad Channel FBD Memory
Quadro FX 1700 /or FX 3700, FX 4600?/
150GB 15k SAS drive
2x 500GB 7.2k HD

Is it better to buy 1 fastest XEON CPU or 2 slower XEONS?
I think, 3GB memory isn't to much for 8 cores. I render to HD resolution.
What can you recommend to me?

I'd say go with the DUAL CPU option for your quickest return of investment. this will render faster than the SINGLE CPU system due to the extra GHz (and add the Nucleo plug-in for AE and that'll render quicker aswell).

I doubt you'd notice the difference between the 1333MHz & 1600MHZ FSB's to be honest.

The faster clock speed of the single CPU system would help with standard layout/3D modelling tasks but when compared to the drop in rendering power i would have this would rule it out.

Look at the bigger picture. If rendering is the biggest issue, go DUAL CPU (slower speed). But if 3D modeling is your key then go with a faster single CPU setup (and you can alwasy add the 2nd CPU at a later date as an upgrade)

Check out the guys @ CAD2 http://www.cad2.com. they helped me spec up both my machines and they rock at 3dsmax rendering & AE.

hellow i just forgot to say something use the wind. vista 64 bit and alot of memory ram like 12 gb itīs what i have for uge work and animations of it and work with photo shop inthe same time you will apreciat it and dont forgot it, thath machine rendering itīs alot noisy you will need a kvm extender and an clima control room, a small room can go to 30 degrees celcium in no time ( with no windows and a close door).

good buy
