Hellö!
Since you asked i thought id give it a try to crit on your concept :), Ill just throw stuff out.. all of course very much of my own taste and feel, so feel free to ignore :p! If looking only at the figure and not the concept his left(from our point of view) arm and leg seems a bit short. Now for the concept design. The belts around his chest and boots, it would be cool if you made them look more lika a part of the boots and the shoulderpad(im guessing the chestbelt is there to support the shoulderpad). Right now they look like something he picked up as a temporary solution to hold evereything together, maybe thats what you wanted though it doesnt look very intentional. I think the crouch shield is really cool, though it seems a bit to much like the center of attention right now, maybe it'll change once you worked some more on other areas. The robe is kind of plain, but it works well though i think you could push the design a little bit more, maybe work more on decorating the edge of the sleeves and stuff like that. You could make decorations move up towards his elbows maybe to mark them out. Not much more right now to say about it more than its a really good start, appart from the crits i just told i think it has lots of potential! Good stuff ;)..

Ill check back later..

Lycka till!

Hey, thanks for the crits Niklas.
I will redesigning the boots. They are kind of boring and plain. I thought I might add some decorative enforcement on them maybe.
Very good point about the robe, Im otw with a new design for that, one that will be much more symmetrical. Like 4th image on the conceptsheet (guildwars) where I will place the CGS logo aswell. And its just me being stupid, the belt has no purpose whatsoever!:) I will switch side on it and ditch the chain to hold the shoulderpad.

Update. New design for the "crotchplate" to go with the new theme of nature/vegetation. Some parts still missing before its done, and I will bend the mesh aswell so its not entirely flat.

samarcbz: Thanks alot you too. I have been watching your thread, and it rocks:)

Time has gone and progress has been made. One Iron Giant for my final diorama and some serious changes on the warlock. As of now I am not 100% happy with the development, will see if I like it better when all clothing is finished and on place.
Btw, he looks really silly with the cape over his shoulders atm. But thats just a placeholder.

Minor tweaks on the shape.

http://student.gamemaker.nu/~hakper050/dw3/warlock02.jpg

Greater focus on armor. He is still supposed to wear some kind of robe, but I have to re-think, last attempt I think destroyed the shape and silhouette of him. I like this better so far.

Pretty much fluff for todays update. Most work has been focused on actually making it possible to even finish. Such as retopoing torso and boots into one tool. Which means that the first lowpoly mesh is finished aswell.
Few pieces of armor missing. Than lots of details in the armor. And tweaks on the shape of the character (halleluja for transposemaster). And of course the clothing (such as the sleeves). And weapon! (which is work in progress too).

sagishow: thanks!

Update on the weapon. Tribute to a good song, I call it the Razor's edge:)
http://student.gamemaker.nu/~hakper050/dw3/razorsedge01.jpg
About a day left of work on the weapon. Sharpen up the blade, and add some details to the staff. Perhaps add a flag (cgs?) tied up to the staff...

Looking pretty cool man. I like the detail you have added to the weapon so far. Keep on pushing! :)

03-11-2008, 11:23 AM
StacyOgie, RedFish, FistOfGod: Thanks. Feels good that you liked it:)

Airflow: Tnx. I will try to pusher that style even further since its probably the only thing that keeps the character together at the moment:D

hakanpersson

Minor update. As mentioned I feel a bit off from my concept and stuck in no mans land. At the moment it feels right to go for a more realistic style. Started the texturingprocess. The model is not finished yet but pretty close to.

Shoulderpad requires more details, and perhaps something that keeps it on place. And I plan on adding crytals or something into the armor.

Beautifull:cool: Nice details, crouch plate looks cool. Keep up the goodwork. All the best:thumbsup:

hakanpersson
03-12-2008, 08:40 PM
Lanyo: Thanks. Yes, so would I. But I couldnt find out how to do more of it. They will probably have serious problems fitting into the currect style:) Things never turns out the way you want.

madshooter: Thanks alot. But the crotchplate (aka wolfplate) looks pretty shitty on that image. Will try to integrate it better to the rest of the style later on.

Another fluff update. I hope this counts as properly representing your team:thumbsup:

Yongs: Thanks. It took quite alot of time to make it look that way too!

Lowpoly bonanza! ~8700 tris. Only missing some chain/rope to maintain the wolfplate. As soon as all uvs are finished, I can finally fix the final normalmaps and texturebakes.
http://student.gamemaker.nu/~hakper050/dw3/warlock06.jpg
He looks scared doesnt he? Evil Iron Giant coming his way perhaps. The belt on the shoe will ofc be deformed to fit.

It's looking really nice. I find the wolfplate humorous it its sexual innuendo, but hey, why the heck not? I like it! I also like the demon-form on the bottom blade of the weapon. Will that be mirrored on the other side of the blade, or just on the front side? Nice integration fo the CGLogo too. Looking forward to seeing the textures!

Hej!
Very nice bladesculpt! Me likes.. :p Only downside about the weapon is that it looks like it belongs to a warlord more than an invoker, but as long as you show his magic stuff in some of your images you should be fine.. It would also be cool if there was some more shapedifference on the blades, maybe make the more plain one longer/slim, smaller o just some other shape. Overall very nice work m8! ;) Kör hårt!

hakanpersson
03-17-2008, 07:00 PM
walrus: Thanks! I did see the sexual part in it at some point too, I decided to ignore it:) The head on the blade is only supposed to be at one side. Since its all mirrored I can change still as I like, but I think it might be too much with 2 heads?

FrozZT: Thanks again! Yes, he kind of looks like a warlord. Which I guess is just a result of poor concepting:scream: Will try to push the magic side of things harder. And I will make the horns asymmetrical later on, same with the rest of the model too. But most things have mirrored uvs so its easer to keep it symmtrical for now. Good idea with the blade btw, will add some of that later.

First realtime render in Xnormal. Jippie! ~8800 tris. 2048 normal and color.
The colormap are just some early zbrush tests that I sampled quickly.

Larger easter-update:
Rigged with FBIK and some simple facial controllers.
The clothing texture is still very early wip. I have left that for laters since I have run into big questions regarding the color-scheme. Hopefully the solution will come by itself along the way. C&c mostly welcome, along with ideas for colors:)

I like your weapon design a lot. It is very different. Personally, I think a small adjustment on the end of the weapon would make it look better. The metal part facing the right hand can be sharpen a bit. Right now it's a little more like a blunt force weapon.

Thanks for comment. And I must say I agree about the weapon looking a bit too much blunt. Will try to fix that before I consider the mesh final. Cheers!

Very nice!
Did you assing in xNormal a diffuseGI cube texture for that screenshots? If you put a cube texture there you can make the model less dark and to simulate some kind of outdoor lighting.

Thanks! Hope you didnt mind me cutting away that logotype do you:)

For these images I have no GI texture added. But I made some nice night-render tests using the example diffuseGI textures. Will tweak the final rendering once all models are finished.

Thanks for a great freeware app btw:thumbsup:

Final lowpoly. Render in Xnormal. ~8980 tris. 2048 color, normal, specular color, emissive, reflection, gloss.
Thought id might add specular power too, but I dont see much point with it. Im off to posing, podium and whatever is required for final submission. c&c welcome, cya!

medunecer: Thanks dude!
jogshy: Cheers. And I saw you put up a new release with the GI cubemaps too, cheers! I hope they work well.

I rendered the large beauty shot with Mental Ray, my screen cant go higher than 800px in height, which kinda sucks, so the screenshot on the first image had to suffer. Will definatly take another screen whenever I get my hands on a better computer.
But thats another story, final is submitted.

Big thanks to all the kind words and critics during the progress. Will begin sharpening my axe until DW4, hope to see you all there:twisted:

And here is the missing texturesheet, no point showing the conceptsheets, only a couple sketches.

Damn, thats actually a wolf, or werewolf:D But I realized afterwards its kinda tiny in size. Btw, there were supposed to be more animal theme to it, but I FAILED:) Oh well, thats when you dont have a thing called concept.

Thanks! Yep, never spent as much time tweaking a project, specially not with the layout:) Regarding the judges I'll be happy if I come within top 50, but nice enough just to finish. Ponder about knowledges gained etc etc and come back for next war, hehe.

Good luck yourself! I am sure that your dude will make a good fight for top 20.

the flork: thanks, Im glad you liked it anyway:thumbsup: Actually I wasnt prepared that texturefilters could ruin so much, most details of the wolfhead just dissappears when not focusing on it.
