Hi.

I am attempting to render only the front faces of a transparent object. (facing the camera)

Under 'display' - I can turn off 'back-face culling' - which allows it to appear correctly on screen - however the result does not transfer to the render.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
PS> Working in Maya 8.5.

THANKS!

Go to objects's shape node attributes, open up the Render Stats frame. Disable "Double Sided"

Backface Culling only works for viewports.

In the render globals as well: mental ray>render options>object flags>faces = front This looks at normals, be sure they face the correct way.

Hi.
Thanks for the replies. I tried both the double sided faces and the render stats for only front faces. I tried them in a simple file and this solution worked, however I am still having problems with my original file.
The object is a human head - the trouble spot is the ear. It is a single mesh - however the
ear turns in on itself a fair amount to create the curvature necessary. Could this be part of the problem? All the normals are facing out and are conformed.

Any guidance would again be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
PS> It is a single mesh.
