View Full Version : Misc: Ui Problems
unrealwarfare 05-02-2003, 05:38 PM For some reason, i cant change the ui anymore... the customized ones dont work. All the files are located in the max/ui directory default during install. But when i load a customized ui, an error message pops up saying i must have all the following ui scheme files in the ui directory.... wtf??? they are already there. The only scheme i can use now is the default one. what happened?

Perhaps there is a setting in PATHS?

Try removing your 3dsmax.ini file, don't delete it just move it in case you find that it is not the cause of your problem. 3ds Max will generate a new one next time you open her up.
And then try to change your UI.

nope... didn't work. This sounds like such an easy problem, yet so frustrating.
Some suggestions (probably a long shot)...
1. Maybe some files are readonly, select all files in max dir and make sure they're not read only.
2. Try lock UI to off.
3. Look closely in you're 3dsmax.ini files and check your paths. Also check the names of the files it's asking for.
4. I noticed max 4.2 uses "ui" as path and max 5 uses "UI", maybe it's capitals what you need.
That's as much as I can think off...
my 2 cents

thanks for your time, i tried everything but didn't work.
- none of the files are basically read-only, other than the readme.doc.
- the menu lock was off.
- the .ini file only contained 2 lines specific to UI paths, which was
[CustomMenus]
FileName=C:\3DSMAX5\UI\MaxMenus.mnu
- i checked the capital letterrs, so technically everything should be fine
- for example, i dont know, reactor ui scheme contains all the file .extentions needed for it to run (all the ones the error msg says when its looking for them - they are .cui, .kbd, .qop, .clr, .mnu). they are all located in the UI directory eventhough the program still looks for them
any other suggestions?
uh.. reinstall Max ?

Yeah I was just reaching for that previous comment myself..
And/or go ask on the Discreet forum?, sounds like a job for techsupportdepartment-man.
