Title: The Butterfly Dancer
Name: Jeen Lih Lun
Software: Maya, mental ray, Photoshop
This is initially inspired by the chinese film ' The Butterfly Lover' and my favourite sport Rhythmic Gymnastic. The story is actually quite similar to Romeo and Juliet where the couple fall in love but strongly against by families and the people around. Eventually her lover was ill to death after being beaten by her father's gang and she committed suicide in front of his grave. Both spirit transformed to butterflies and flew away together.
This dancer is actually a spirit, dancing to call for her other half before transform to butterlfy. I'd rigged and added influence object, corrective blendshape and cluster for better mucsle deformation and is animating her now. Polygon count before subdivision is around 7000.
Hope you'll like her.
She is nice, 5 stars

Wow... simply wow... 7000 before sub, can you post an image of the 7000 poly version as well? I'd be curious to see wireframes as well...
The movement in theis piece is exquisite. Colors, perfect. I wonder if the particle effects are a bit distracting. I cant tell exactly what they are or what they are coming from, but they do add a contrast of small detail to the work. I'm torn on whether I like them or not.
My favorite part is the hair. Very nice style. It adds a huge sense of flow and movment to the image.
My only crit has do do with the side of her stomach area and the cloth there, looks like the cloth was painted on because it deforms with her body. A small detail though.

dnk >> Thanks a lot :) Really happy that you like her :D
DiLysch>> Thank you very much for the comments. Well the 'particle effects' are actually painted in photoshop as I thought it would improve the mood. I was struggling for quite a long time whether or not to add the effect or just leave the character in a black background without the effect:shrug:. The hair is my favourite too :)I will improve the clothing area around the stomach, very appreciate your crits. I will post the wireframe when i am back in the office later on. opps, 7000 poly is just for the character tho, not including the skirt. sorry if i didn't make it clear.
diginime>> Hi there, thank you! The hair was polys mapped with alpha. The hair texture were painted in photoshop. By the way, I am from KL :D nice to meet you.
IldS>> Oppps, thanks a lot, you pointed that out for me!! I'll improve it right away. Cheers.
