it might be something as simple as tweaking the shading. did you try and adjust the opacity and bumped the incandescence way up or something? are you getting any erros during the render like maybe the texture thats supposed to be applied has gone missing or something?

hmm I am almost sure the incandescence stayed the same from my first render, which was perfect.
But I'll check that and come back and let ya know...but anyone else don't be shy, I can use the help!! ^^
edit: just checked, and I didn't see any difference...and btw I didn't use any textures, just pfx shading.

Things to consider:
1. Make a new scene, create a sphere, make paintable, Paint on it, render. What do you get ?
1.5 If OK, then try to paint something with a standard brush in your main scene. Does it render ?
Do You get any error messages in the Script-Editor ?
2. Render Passes OK ?
3. Do other objects render correctly ?
4. Is "render active" selected in the renderglobals ?
5. Do you get an alpha-channel from the paint-fx ?

hmmm ok thanks for the help. As for all that stuff, it's all ok. I don't have render active on...and everything else renders fine. I think I have isolated the problem. When I hide my spotlights (the ones with the light fog), the pfx shades in dark, but still visible and natural. As soon as I turn even ONE of those lights on, it blows the pfx out. Crazy I tell you...
edit: ok....seems like the lightfog is what did it. Dunno why but lightfog and pfx don't mix well. I will just render the light fog out separately from the geometry and the pfx, and throw it all 2gether in photoshop. Thanks for all your help!!

more of an after thought here really... could you just break the connection from the volumetric spotlight and the paintFX stroke ala light linking? haven't tried doing that with strokes but it might work. o well.

cool idea, but I tried light linking with the strokes, and it doesn't seem to work well....maybe A/W will work that out b4 Maya 7... =P
