Really awesome so far. When I first saw your initial sketch, I thought that muscular guy/eagle would not work. But hey, you've proven me wrong. the scythe is really nice too. Perhaps you could make it more stylized? Have you agreed on an element? Air/ lightning fits yours since your character has wings, an ethereal element and eagles represent agility. Post more soon!

I was going to put in color for the last concept but it is a difficult thing to start.

Artifact Weapon: Death’s Scythe of Darkness
He is Death incarnate, his eyes can’t see but he can clearly perceive nearby enemies.
The bindings on his body represent the eternal oppression that has been laid upon him.
The bounded wings can’t be used for flight, but by trading his eyes to the High Lord of Death, he has gained his freedom to rebirth.
He uses Death’s Scythe as his weapon, and assassinates enemies with magic.
And he is called “TEAR” because of the two lines of blood tears left as the mark of his sacrificed eyes.

Really cool design you got there. I like number 3 with those dead fleshy bits hanging off his shoulders. If he is a stalker-type, no 4 makes him look too grandiose in style. Nice work.

I like it, but I would rethink the angle of the scythe. The cutting edge of a scythe is on the inside. He wouldn't be able cut anything with it the way it is right now, unless he drops it over something.

i mostly go with the flow like how you create something straight from zbrush
it turned out much more fun-
of course the blindfold and other important details will be there in the end , though I pretty like how he looks now, heh :D

Really nice stuff going on here. Someone mentioned that the bird legs looked out of place, I think it's because they look too much like something you would see on a chicken. Not a bad-a** hybrid-type species. In the posed drawing they look much better. I'd focus on finding a blend from bird to human. That would be key. Also, keep in mind how this creature will move. If he has wings, and is flying, you're gonna have to figure out a way to make that work, especially with that long tail. I'd make a very low rez model with the proportions and animate. See how it looks. Make modifications from there, then go to it. If this is just for a still, please disregard everything I mentioned. All it's gotta do is look cool.

I think one the main difficulties in making the actual model would be in the wings
It'll take a lot of polys to make them look great, but that would also mean it's going to take up a lot of resources.
I think the actual model construction is going to be a lot harder than I originally anticipated.:sad:

I am still weighing on whether I should add feathers. Maybe I will upload more later when there is more progress – please keep the comments coming.
As for using animation to improve the modeling issue – that’s one cool thing you mentioned. Makes the model more accurate and makes sense, that’s what I need to work on.

but as long as the wings curve a bit like a cut open tube, don't you think you could get away with low res in up-down over wing?
problem with your design will be animation though it seems. how will the featherwork spread when he moves the wing limbs?
normally the feathers fan and you'd need separate feathers for that but maybe you can make a shabby sort of look where the featherbody splits at each limb? like shabby and dirty feathers that aren't taken good care of and don't fan individually?
would look dirty and scary while save you polys and bones :V7

dude rather than modeling each feather, model many sheets that fit into the wing bone structure and then texture some feathers with alpha channels, so they look modeled in... but you'll also have to add normals to the feathers so they look like they pop out... that will be tricky... i know mudbox loads the texture so you can paint normal data, where you know the texture will be and where the alpha wont... be.
it won't be tooooo incredibly hard, but you'll have to model several feather sets... so the feathers have some variety... kind of like sprites...

The wings which was giving me headaches have finally made its way up with these help.
I know they are by no means perfect but it’s time to take a break here as time is falling short for me.
Still there’s much more room for other adjustments. And I hope that I can finish them in time!

Those wings look awesome! I noticed in your concept drawing that wings seemed to spread from an upper set of arms. It would look pretty sweet if you carried the biceps into the wings a bit more, as well as making the feathers at the tips a little longer than the other feathers imo. Other than that its very impressive!! :)

man i have to say thats i like what your doing on this one. i just dont see why you would have to do so many steps to get that look your going for,but i ll say this. Why using so many steps on the wing?
Because of some fo the guests want to figure out the whole procedure.
Actually, it’s not the only way to compose this model.
If there is a way for reference, it will be the best.
During the time on this model, I also take a lot of trials.
I think I still have the space to improve….haha…

The main reason is that I haven’t composed the
wing before, and spent lots of time on trial.
Right now, I always use my leisure time after daily work…
I hope everything can be on time.
In my point of view, the contest isn’t important.

one thing is that the legs and wings and tail are so big that it dwarfs the arms, so id stretch them out a little bit and maybe the head too. might be neat if you gave him a long neck too!

even though it's very late, he does look unbalanced with that big lower body with tail and small upper body.. perhaps make bigger back-mouscles and size down legs and tail just a bit? if it won't interfere with all that detail you've worked out..

I kind of like the fact that he's "off balance" as he's a flying creature. he might be just landing or kicking off or even just balancing by beating his wings? or maybe not..? :P

Nice attention to details and really fun "perch" for him to have landed on. I like the pose too. The one area that isn't quite believable is his right hand: It doesn't really feel like his fingers are wrapped aorund and holding his weapon.

Well about my very beginning idea is I want to capture an instantaneous moment, because the character’s posture will be more likely a bird or dragon landing in somewhere that moment. (like picture)
I’ll want to expression this kind of feeling is because I design this character in the long time extreme the individuality which is character expression the restless feeling.
He isn’t a inborn on invincible and the super formidable character, its more likely which grows by many disasters and the oppression” The Victim”, but he wants to freedom and end all these inequality. Therefore he gave up his eyes to exchange a powerful ability to against his enemy, those idea keep to following this character. Just hope u ya’ll guys will like it.

I guess it's test textures... but anyways guess you'll limit that 'meaty' colouration to fleshy parts and have some other diffuse/etc on feathers etc :3
did you fix the spear-holding hand as pointed out? last pic hides it.
also his left hand has a bit of an awkward pose making it look less authentic :/ perhaps do a more natural pose for the fingers? rotate down the thumb metacarpal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metacarpal) etc?
anyways, good luck!!
This is definetly on a winning course. Last render looks awesome but give the character a little more light so we can see the details better.
