View Full Version : Quick C4D on Mac related question.

Hi,

Sorry if this is a silly question but I'm new to working with C4D on a mac and am starting to notice a thing or two that differs from the old Windows experience.

For example:
When opening or saving files from C4D, the dialogue box for either action pops up at it's default size which i find rather cramped. Most of the time, I find myself having to perform an extra step of dragging the lower right corner of the window to enlarge it so as to get a better overview of the files within. Once a file is either loaded or saved the dialogue box is closed and work continues. However, when performing either a Save As or Open a few minutes later the size of the dialogue box has once again reverted back to its original (cramped) state forcing one to drag the lower right corner once again.

Question:
Is there some way to make C4D remember the size-state of this dialogue box during the course of a C4D work session?....or is this an OS X related Finder thingy? Tips appreciated :)

Cheers / Alex

Hi Alex,

Try this and see how it works for you.

Save As dialogue window opens.
Click the green minimize/ maximize button on the top left bar.
It should expand to fill the screen.
Drag the lower left corner to the size you want.
Cancel the Save As.

Repeat Save As. The window should now open as you set it.

Cheers, Alan.

Edit: This works with Tiger 10.4.11.

Are you using OSX 10.5?

I'm still with OSX 10.4.11 (and C4D R10.5) and I don't have that problem. May be a Leopard only behavior.

Hey, now that you mention it, I'm getting it too on 10.5.2. The maximize-and-resize trick doesn't do anything; it seems to only remember the value of the left edge, so when I save a second time I get the standard-size Save dialog way over on the left edge of the screen. Hmm.

I just tried it with TextEdit, but it uses a sheet that slides out of the window's title bar, so that's kind of different than C4D's independent Save window. TextEdit does remember its size, though!

Is there some reason C4D doesn't use sheets?

I'm on 10.5.2 as well and am C4D is not remembering my save dialog box size either....

Don't think it used to behave this way...

I hadn't noticed it until this thread. Dammit!

Yeah, I noticed this too in Cinema 10.

But I also tested it in Release 9.1 and here it works (in Leopard). So it seams to be a glitch in Cinema.

Hi,

Hey, thanks guys for all your feedback. Yes, I'm on Leopard 10,5,2.

You know, its funny how a small (forced and unnecessary) workflow step like this can start to get on ones nerves, especially when performing it hundreds of times a day. Looks like I'm not alone here. Another irritant is when working with dual screens; the save or open dialoge box always pops up on the right screen one even though the program menus are way on the left, forcing one to mouse all the way over (into another time zone!) to the right screen, resize the thing again all over again etc.

I'm really loving the C4D Mac experience but this is a bug that needs to be fixed.
Its sooo Amiga 1989 and driving me bananas if you know what I mean.

Good observation PresNevins, the way in which the open and save dialogue boxes behave on C4D are different from typical applications like textedit etc. Question if this is something Maxon can fix or if its another one of those Leopard oddities.

*sigh*

That's strange. I'm also using Dual Monitor and here the dialogs are popping up on the left side of the screen. My menus are on the right :) It seams that they always appear on the wrong site.

The Fileselector always appears on the screen, that owns the (Apple) menu bar.

The size and position of the Fileselector for Carbon apps is by default in the middle of the screen (and in the size you see in Cinema). If it should be different, the Carbon app has to issue specific calls.

For Cocoa apps the OS handles the size of the fileselector.

Best regards,
