Hey there,
Thanks for asking-
How much 3D design do you do vs. editing/compositing?
Are you wanting to work with uncompressed HD/2K frames on the same machine? Or are you working with compressed (DV, HDV, V210, DVC Pro, Avid DNX, etc) media only?
If you would like to contact me directly, I would be happy to answer any technical questions and/or put you in touch with somebody on the sales team.
Cheers,
Adam

i do more 3d, only about 10 percent of my computer use will be editing/compositing. Im more interested in knowing the quality of these machines, how does it compare to let say the dell quad core setups. Anyone other feedback from other uses would be appreciated too thanks.

They're rock-solid, built like a tank, excellent case design with brilliant airflow plus superb customer support.
Where-as, my experience with Dell has been: terrible customer support (Indian guy with fake English name reading through the Windows trouble-shooter), 99% plastic cases which are cramped, under powered and make upgrades almost impossible and fans that sound like a 747 at take-off when you stress the computer...like moving the mouse.
Do you want a Hummer or a Toyota? Nothing wrong with either unless you're using it for the wrong things.

I dont get that analogy.. Like a General Motors Corporation Hummer is somthing special ? i think a better analogy would be like.. a Toyota or a Lexus.. or a Chevy or a Caddilac..you know, same parts, just put together different. Anyways BOXX Im sure would be the choice for a prebuilt workstation. Not needing the tech support I didnt want to spend all that $ on a BOXX so i just built myself a CYLINDERR..

Hummer's were designed for military use, tough, robust, reliable...I'm not talking about a sparkley pink H2 with Chrome rims.
Toyota's (or any other car including a Lexus) are designed more for shopping trips or dropping the kids off at school. Sure you can get something like a Vauxhall/Opel Frontera that looks like an off-road vehicle but, if that's what you're expecting to do you'll be very disappointed.

IC.. well we dont have such a high opinion over here of our own military vehicles.. In fact as a bloke Id think you would have plugged one of your own Rovers.. funny.. we have a Defender driving around here (not to popular in Hawaii) with a back spare cover that reads..
"Hummer Rescue Vehicle" :)
PS: I dont mean to sound like a smart ass.. guess i just am :(

Yea the old boxx I have come across where built great. I can't afford or really have the need but if I got the money to throw around then yea I would have one on order.

lollygag, I think most UK peeps will agree that Rovers suck ('cept for Range Rovers, which was the only part of Rover anyone wanted when all of Rover was up for sale)
hastyle, before I decided on the BOXX 8400 I looked up Dell as well, but (based on Dell UK) the prices for a decent quad core was nearing the price of a BOXX, so I thought I might as well just save up a bit(or a lot, very subjective depending on how much you earn) more and get the BOXX.
I used both Dell(dual core) and Boxx(quad core) at EscapeStudios. Both did the job, the Boxx just did it faster (obviously) which is why at first initially I was after a Dell, but as I said above, the prices...
As for Dell support, I have a Dell laptop which is bloody good, never needed support, so I wouldn't know about their support, but in my opinion they are good machines regardess.

Check out the guys over @ CAD2. they are UK based and really know what they are talking about. Support products, superb support and the fastest 3D VFX workstation i have ever owned.
I have both a Dual XEON 8x Core Rendering Workstation and a smaller (Sub £1,000) 3D modelling system from them and they both rock.
