Hello, we've released version 3.1.0 of Glest (http://www.glest.org). This version contains several improvements for the online component and a new menu background.

New features.

- In-game chat
- Main menu background model changed
- Server IPs are now stored in a file, and can be used later
- Network status key
- Map changes: Added 'Swamp of Sorrow' and 'Valley of Death', removed 'One on One' and 'The Ruins'
- Balance changes

How to get the game.

Windows: Download the installer (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/glest/glest_3.1.0.exe?use_mirror=osdn) and follow the instructions.

Linux: Download the data (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/glest/glest_data_3.1.0.zip?use_mirror=osdn). Then you can download the source code (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/glest/glest-source-3.1.0.tar.bz2?use_mirror=garr) and compile it, however if you are going to play over LAN/Internet, is highly recommended the you use the official binaries (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/glest/glest_linux32_bin_3.1.0.tar.gz?use_mirror=osdn)(thanks to titi), to prevent the game from getting out of sync.

How to play a multiplayer game.

To start a network game, one of the players has to create a new game with network slots and the other players have to join.

To connect to a server you need the server's IP, the IP is shown in the lower left corner of the "new game" menu. This is the right IP for LAN play, however if you are under router and you want to play over the internet, you will need the IP of the router.

Glest uses TCP port 61357, if you are behind a router you will have to forward this port to your computer if you want to host games.

All players have to be using the same version of the game and have exactly the same map, tileset and tech tree. This means that if you have mods installed in the tech tree that is being used for the game, every player has to have the same mods. An option if you want to install mods over the magitech tech tree and be able to play people that don't have them, is to copy it and install the mods over the copy.

I hope you enjoy the Glest online experience ;)

c&c are welcome
