Hi, I am currently learning Maya and am working on the Newton's balls tutorial. I had some problems with the ball falling, the strings were not following. I think all I need to do is add them in the gravity field. But I accidentally changed the strings into active rigid bodies AND SAVED, and now they do funky stuff. I have two questions for you Maya geniuses out there. How do I change it back and where do I find this channel box they talk about? I found a channel control but that does not contain the attributes I need to change. Thanks for the help.

select the string(s),go into channel box, open the rigidybody options under SHAPES...
then change active On to Off...

or select the string(s), edit->delete by type -> rigidbody
and make it again

hope it helps

Thanks for the help but I don't know where the control box is, All I can see is a channel control or something. Under Window>general editors>

go to window - hpyergraph, and with the string selected, click the button that says "show up and downstream connections" and you'll see a rigid body node in there. Select that node and delete it and you'll have your normal geometry back instead of a rigid body.

U can open either Channel Box or Att. Editor by press Ctrl+A
if youare in Window and the hotkey is default...

then on the top-right , you'll see three icons, there's what you want, i suppose :)

It is very important if you are working in Maya

Thank you for all the help. I have been able to fix the mistakes and input the rigid information but there seems to be a problem of animation when I run it. I looked over all the steps and the sample file and have not been able to fix it. The problem is with the physics and it seems to follow the law of conservation of momentum but does not follow the law of conservation of energy. In other words when the first ball hits, instead of the middle three remaining still and the last one flying out to the same height, all four of the balls go out 1/4 the distance. Any suggestions? Once again I appreciate all the help I received.
