Hi youzhandong :) First of all great to see more 3d folk around the forum :) and thank you very much for your kind words !!

Lovely start of a thread! Faces are hard to do so keep going! What I've noticed about your models is the eyelid area - remember to define the upper and lower eyelid of the character - you seem to be loosing detail there [especially in the last/poly modeled guy]. Also make sure the eyelids fit around the eyeballs - there's no spaces between the eyeball and the lid :)

Also the ears - keep in mind they flow smoothly into the face [connect flush with the face, rather than standing out as a separate piece of geometry]

Keep it up - looking forward to more :)

Welcome aboard yzdyzdyzdyzd1124 :)

Do you do any traditional drawing? I think that can help to really help to differentiate between problems with modeling, and problems with an understanding of the form and proportions. I am unqualified to help you with modeling, but can help you with drawing exercises, which I think will be of benefit to your modeling skill. Looking forward to updates :)

yzdyzdyzdyzd1124, thanks for posting these. :) I think these show a solid start but I would recommend pushing your traditional skills further (we all have to do that) :) and one artist I think you'd really enjoy learning from in Anthony Ryder. His website has demos here:

http://tonyryder.com/demo/index.htm

Also he has a great book, which is listed here:

http://tonyryder.com/a-book.htm

(You can also find it on amazon.com)

I really recommend your trying these Workshops, working traditionally - while these Workshops are closed, you can still use the reference and post your work to your Sketchbook thread:

Anatomy Lesson Series: Body Part 1 - The Head (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=199&t=375031)

Anatomy Lesson Series: Body Part 2 - The Torso (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=199&t=405198)

Looking forward to more. :)

Hello, yzdyzdyzdyzd1124!! Welcome!! good start! That horse sculpt of yours looks like it could use some reference images..You will find quite a few here, posted by Tizianoadmirer:
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=4791528#post4791528

Also, have a look at CyborgJA (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=200&t=454042&page=8&pp=15)'s Sketch book thread to see a good horse sculpt in ZBrush.

Hey

great work!

Your hand sketches are nice. Try to spend just a little more time when drawing... they seem a bit "rushed"... especially the shading. Good work though.

I can't crit on the sculpted heads except that anatomy-wise, all of them seem to have the eyes positioned too close too eachother. (space between 2 eyes should be about the size of an eye)

keep going, doing great!

Keep it up man:arteest:

Nice sketches.

Concerning your full figures.
Try to see the pelvis and chest area as 2 separate basic forms that are connected by a spine.
Due to this, they are both capable of changing position relative to eachother in many ways, but there should always be a connection.
Check your A. Loomis book and study his manikins for a good idea about this.

The 3d head is looking pretty nice. Though yeah, as Johan said, green also :D I'd be more concerned about the values in your drawing and digital paintings. Have you seen Zhanglu's video from Massive Black? Might help you quite a lot. It's not that expensive also. Bridgeman's a good choice for studies :) So far I think you're heading in the right direction. Keep it that way!

Hi Andrew..:)
I just went through your sketchbook,...nice progress...
I especally like the last two images posted...the neck studies are great...I see question marks on a couple of the neck muscles..the big one that attaches to the back of the skull and the top of the shoulder blade bone...used for looking up at birds flying by and pulling your shoulder up to touch your ear...:D ..The smaller one used for turning your face and head sideways to look over your shoulder..:)
When doing those kind of studies, always make a habit of checking out by using your own body to see what the muscles funtion is....Just a little suggestion that might be useful to you in your future studies..Muscle funtion trumps everything when it comes to anatomy..without the knowlage of the muscles funtion, it cannot be made to move the part of the body that it was created for to move.
I like that last female portrait..nice feeling to it...The goden background color ties everything together and creates a nice midtone from which you can establish the rest of the color values from light to dark from.
Keep up the nice progress, looking forward to seeing more of your works and studies..
TAKE CARE
Glenn

The head model looks great. The ear and close to it areas need more work.

Nice studies, keep going with them and be sure you get something useful from each of them. Oh, and always listen to Glenn :D
You might want more polygons in the ear if you're planning to take that head into Zbrush. I'm looking forward to seeing more of 3d stuff, been craving to do some myself, but this laptop I have isn't up to it...
You could've worked more on that Man On Fire poster, that's a great movie! Try www.daverapoza.com there are some very useful videos and the artist is amazing.

Great studies Andrew.
I think your digital paintings can use a few hard edges here and there. The overall look seems too soft and blurry. I have this too sometimes but it's a matter of being brave and daring to use a hard edged brush. You will see that with experimentation, it will turn out better in the end :)

Keep going! It's great to see someone active in this forum :D

Hi Andrew..:)

Nice studies...I like the lighting on the last post of your 3D head..
I also really like that last 2d painting of the woman with the cloth draped over her head..nice feeling there in that one...The softness really adds to it's feeling and the mood she projects..Alot of the old masters used that softness to put their figures into deep space..it's called optical perspective..They would contrast the distant soft figure or element in the painting picture plane by putting a figure/element that was closer to the viewer, and by having the closer figure/element be crisper with hard defined edges..creates an illussion of depth within the picture plane..So don't loose that beautiful moody atmospheric soft effect that you've achieved in that portrait, it may come in handy at times when you want to achive optical perspective in a piece that your working on..:)
Looking forward to seeing more of your works and studies...

Hi Andrew..:)
Your really getting some nice feelings /emotions happening in your works..That's what really counts the most ...All the technical stuff is secondary, and is nothing without that capture of emotion to start with..So your deffinitly on the right path with your work...GREAT job and GREAT progress....
