Hi,

I've been making a robot and started to wrap some textures around it. But now I've noticed that the black and yellow textures could get me a more interesting result.

You see my main texture for the robot is a blue shellac and i've realised that if I hit the RGB Intesity button in the Alpha Source then the black becomes transparent but.....

I'm having difficulty understanding how to get the blue shellac to be behind it. I'm guessing that the solution may involve a multi sub object but i'm a bit unsure. If I copy the material into a new multi sub object then I lose the uvwrap. Maybe the pic below will help explain what I mean.

Basically I'm looking for a way to get the blue shellac behind the yellow in the uvwrap. It seems like it could be quite a simple manouvre but I'm a little inexperienced when working with the material editor.

Once again, many thanks to anyone who could point me in the right direction.

Mike

Do you want to mix two materials? Then use a Blend material, and put blue material in one slot, and your yellow/black material in the other, plus your jpg in the Mask slot with its Alpha Source set to RGB Intensity.

If you just want to mix two Diffuse bitmaps, then use a Mix Map instead, with your two maps in the Color # slots, and the jpg in the Mix Amount slot.

I think a composite material will work for you. Notice I said composite material and not composite map. Two different things. One material needs an alpha channel, or at least some image that can be placed in the opacity channel to drive what is visible and what is hidden for the material.

Many thanks for the advice guys,

I guess I'll have to reapply the the uvwraps if I alter the material :( I'm gonna definateley try this if I have time - i'm a student studying 3d and my deadline is looming so I'm having to concentrate on my animation first and come back to this in a while. Thanks for your help tho - I'll post some images back here when i get it done.
