i'm really digging your design, perhaps make him slightly more burly and war torn, he's looking slightly scrawny and clean cut at the moment for the "war" but he's looking pretty damn cool regardless

Sup Scudz!

That looks really awesome man, nothing really meaningful to say though...I'll be watching this!

ahh refreshing to see some semi realistic work in this challenge.
i tend to like the sketch more than the colored version. dunno about the gold, makes him look to rich and kind, somehow.. maybe it's his characteristics though.
looking forward to the progress. have fun! :wip:

he looks extremely tall in my eyes (due to proportions).. (if that's not the intention I'd try to remove in-between spaces (which is hard to get right on a thin person).. and then general proportions... squat and note where the heel touches your butt and check leg proportions (remember knee rotation shape is oval (effectively pivoted a bit behind center of knee when bent)), check to make sure armspan is proportional to height. check head size (body is usually 8 heads high for a man about 185? or how many was it?). check hand and feet against head proportions.)

I like the style of this. It is not your normal armor covered guy. I think you need to push the shape more though. The spikies on the sleeves are a good start but right now there is not a lot pushing him beyond guy in a coat as far as the shape goes. your drawings have a nice shape to them that you seem to have lost in the 3d translation.

Looking good so far. However, I think you should trust your instincts: Go with the fun silhouette above that you really really liked! It had a great fun shape to it that looks a lot more interesting than the current incarnation. But you didn't say why you wanted to go mroe realistic. So if you're looking for more realism in your portfolio and a project to focus on to achieve that, I can see going the route you've taken. (But I still like the chunkier guy more! :) )

Aw, man, why'd you have to go and post that first picture? Now I'm even more sad that you're not pursuing (so you say!) the one with the more stylized proportions! But I fully understand where you're coming from. No one can be sure they'll win a contest, so if in the end you don't win, it's nice to get something else out of the challenge, and in this case it's a needed portfolio piece. And sure, not many people are doing just plain humans... but maybe that's because the fantastic creatures from our imaginations can kick those sorry humans' butts! :) But anyhow, you should save this mesh for later... It's too cool not to do something fun with him at some point!

it's a tough call. In my opinion they are both going to come out fantastic. You seem to want to really push out the ornate details and that may be easier for the eyes on a smaller frame. I like what you are doing though and it will be interesting to see this as you construct it.

i like the buff guy model. if you go with that you should shorten the skirt to above where the sleaves of the jacket. The legs are so small that the skirt dwarfs them even further.
also it might be neat if you tore of one of the jaket sleaves to give it some a semetry, but only on the big one.

Nice idea. I like this Flint-lock Lightning gun. In fact I was thinking about something similar for my character but now....I must find something different haha.
His arms looks very cool - I like this exaggeration. Keep going.

Very cool. Have to say, the beefy dude works for me. If you're looking for more realism, how about pulling it back in that direction with photo-real textures?

Looking forward to seeing where you go with this.

goggles are looking great only true crit is his legs espcially his quad/knee area look awfully thin like they might snap at any moment, they could really do with some beefing up.

i like the one from post # 57.

i allways save incrementaly. i prefer to erase them when i finish the model than lose a lot of work. i get bored very fast so if i lose something from one model i may lose interest in it.

as for the question: you should optimize your texture usage as much as possible. if something is not seen in the game it shouldn't be done. better to use that texture space to add more details to the areas that can be seen.
