Here are some thumbs/silhouettes to get started...plan to explore alot of ideas at this level before I commit to one character race/class/weapon. My thought behind this one is a Giant, or Half Giant Clericon.... kinda like Kali, lots of arms to pray, and alot meaner and tough looking. could do a 4 or 6 arm version. more details added later if I decide to pursue this direction

With some mods he could also be a Warlord (weapons, weapons and more weapons.) hmmm.

will work on another class or two tomorrow,

comments welcome,

Here is round 2 silhouettes/thumbs. Tried one of each class, all humanoid, will be trying some other race types next I think. Will start to think more about weapons/ armor and artifacts as I progress as well, but want to get a strong silhouette before I really start to design anything. nothing ground breaking yet, but:

invoker- instead of skinny wizard did more buff dude, with artifact strapped to back
clericon- another big dude, but with crook and cross on back
stalker- typical skinny dude, fast, sinister prolly too typical- no weapons yet
warlord- huge dude, artifact placed in breast plate, vultures hang around for scraps (victims) no weapons yet...

comments welcome! thanks in advance.

Great stuff - I like the Warlord a lot - the vultures are a nice touch. I really like the Silhouette of the Stalker but I agree he's a little cliche - change up the class maybe?
I like the original multi-armed guy as well but reminds me of the big guy from Mortal Kombat sadly.
Can't wait to see what else you come up with!

DV8
02-23-2008, 01:23 AM
Thanks OnyxAmphiptere,

I am just getting started! I want to work out all the cliche stuff to try and get to some more interesting concepts. I am looking forward to adding some weapons/artifacts and some "power themes" too- once i decide on a base silhouette.

good luck!

I like your invoker and clericon the best, I think; the invoker looks like he's about to bring down some lightning bolts from heaven and the clericon looks like one mean mofo. The cross on his back is a nice touch.

Thanks very much for your input. I think I am gonna leave it up to the team which idea I take to completion. Still working out the kinks, thanks for checking in.

Nice so far! The birds on the Warlord look good, but the Clericon really spoke to me...he's got character in spades. Maybe work the first concept with the four arms into that guy?

thanks BluntPencil!

I am digging the 4 arms thing too... I will take your advice and try working that into the Clericon. I have a couple new ones in development with the 4 armed idea too. the additional arms could be used for so much more power- either physically or magically.

thanks again for the input, good luck!

here's some more creature based thumbs- will focus more on weapons and powers once I narrow down a few of my ideas.

-stalker- alien or undead creature
-invoker- massive abomination- the size of a large hot air baloon drawing power from above
-warlord- giant chained beast that is released for war
-clericon- huge beast harnessed by rider on top, with arcing structure on back to infuse the power

comments welcome- thanks.

here's a few more ideas, still trying each class. had some fun with this. comments left to right:

-stalker- genie like...no legs, nice and quiet for the kill- double artifact blades?
-warlord- slim and agile version- artifact shield?
-invoker- 4 armed babe for lots of invoking, levitation powers, powerful hair?
-clericon- did 2 similar versions- one with rider on top, and another with rider strapped to chest. could be a sadistic clericon as the rider, or maybe the beast is the clericon and its harnessing power from the dude strapped to back/chest?

comments please, thanks

Here's a few more, kinda with a horror theme. let me know if you have any comments or suggestions,

warlord- huge skeletal/undead beast- banners of armies planted on back- leads the war
-clericon- fat, horned, 4 armed bugger (giant) levitating on a magic pedastal with raised artifact
-invoker- zombie kid with raised artifact
-stalker- undead beast with flexible bone arms (slashing)

http://www.mikephillips.ca/DWIII/DWIII_Thumbs5 copy.jpg

DV8
02-27-2008, 01:57 AM
thought I would change up style a bit here. had some fun.

invoker- cruel organic spiky mass of magic
stalker- floating or standing sharp shadow creature
warlord- top heavy cartoon warrior- oversized arm for smashing and commanding
clericon- monk- fat dude, with massive magical 2 handed sword

again these are just initail silhouttes, once I get a strong read I can detail and refine.

comments welcome! I think I may let the boards (you) decide which ones i refine/take to completion!

here's some more thumbs humanoid/animal inspired

-clericon- centaur like, but draft horse body, massive upper body
-warlord- lion like body, banner carrier warlord (banner is artifact)?
-invoker- bear man, druid like powers maybe?
-stalker- reptile man, claws, bow etc.

comments welcome! thanks,

Here's another round of thumbs- more cyber punk feel, but low tech- primitive gas masks, more modern day clothing/details etc.

-invoker- overweight bookworm type- levitates- doesnt look the part, but he is powerful
-clericon- man of the cloth look, but creepy- suitable look for destroying worlds
-stalker- midget assasin with crossbow and buckler
-warlord- hulking, large club/staff

comments- anyone? :)

" -clericon- fat, horned, 4 armed bugger (giant) levitating on a magic pedastal with raised artifact" this one caught my eye, looks interesting and original (comparing to most entries).
He reminds me Jabba the Hut, lazy old b@stard, but also very powerfull.
You may also consider a version with couple of slaves carrying his "throne" instead levitation :)

Those are some really good concepts you got a great range of characters. The one that really stands out for me is the zombie kid - invoker ( round 4 thumbs ) I think that would be a good directio to take, A small weak character over powered by the Artifact.
keep up the good work.

I like that guy too... I was thinking Jabba the Hut was well when I was working on it. I was also toying with a version of this one with tentacles instead of arms/hands.

I really like your idea of the slaves too, could make an interesting mount :)

HI,

still really rough, but I have started to flesh out some of my favorite silhouttes. here's the first one.

Warlord- Wind- Nitro
giant hero flying from the clouds! riding a cloud!

-wind magic based artifact weapon- throwing blade, returns like boomerang, cool effects and glyphs
-large pet bird- seagull? :)
-surrounded by flock of small birds
-loooong twin banners with logos, or just a long scarf?
-antique style, gas mask with tanks on back - tanks too high tech? (so he can breath at high altitudes)
-rides on clouds
-feathers and/or scarf on collar
-light leather armor with feathers

DV8
03-13-2008, 11:22 AM
Another really rough one- just taking details and ideas further with line work.

Warlord- Rock- Skele? whats a cool name for this guy?

-undead skeleton that has risen from the earth (and lost his lower half)
-levitates along with floating rocks (body and around weapons)
-twin huge crude iron artifact swords with floating rock enhancements
-crazy floating hair
-cool and crude heavy armor (will explore more if I decide to persue this design)
-large metal guantlets
-precious stone necklace
-tattered cloak and clothing under armor
-will play with helmet designs more too...

comments welcome!
I am leaning more towards a stylized character, should be fun.

I like that guy too, but I think I am gonna sketch out a few more before I make a final decision on which one to pursue, but I am running out of time quick! between my vacation last week and being busy with work stuff after hours, I really gotta make up some time!

Hi,

here's another one:

Clericon- Fire-Kindle

-bald head sprouting flames
-instead of christian cross on back changed it to a why shape (pun?)
-cg logo on arm and/or belt crest
-thinking leather shin quards instead of metal..? minimal armor
-flaming crook is the artifact
-flame rune tattoos up arms
-leather gloves

I got a lot of response from this one early on so I decided to try it out. not as stylized as the other 2 sketches, but has potential for more exploration. comments welcome, I gotta decide on one asap.

thanks for checking out my thread!

OK, I decided to go with this guy. I wanted to keep exploring from my silhouettes, but was running out of time. I think I can have a lot of fun with this guy, and I had a lot of ideas flowing, and he's unlike anything I have ever done as well. I thought an oversized guy riding on a cloud is cool too. :)

I gotta think of a cool name. Nitro just reminds me of that cheesy Gladiators show... haha

Artifact..?

Decided to go with a more bird like motif for the weapon (to go with the Air concept). this kinda works like a boomerang, or can be used as a hand to hand weapon- its huge!

do both powers need to be used? (air AND lightning) or can we just use one power (Air only)? anyone know?

These are really, really great man! You have a great style going for you and I'm glad you put some effort into the layout presentation! Don't get too caught up in it today. You do have until the late evening, but from what I heard, last year they had massive problems with everyone trying to submit at the last second. Don't be a victim!

Thanks Firerbert,

I appreciate you comment and compliments. Sound advice on not getting caught up on the layout presentation... this comp. is about the characters, not the layout.

I remember in the last contest I was in (master and servant I think) there was a panic right at the end, and lots of clogged servers, so i am going to try and wrap up early.. maybe by 10pm? hehe.

thanks for the compliments, as always, i wish I didnt leave it to the last minute/ wish I had more time, but it was a fun experience.
